MS Dhoni, the former India skipper, was seen at the Edgbaston Stadium on July 14 attending the India vs England 1st ODI match. As the game was underway, the ‘captain cool’ was seen pulling off some statement-making camera shots from the gallery of the cricket stadium.

Notably, for the unaware, MS Dhoni generally does not appear for India cricket matches, with fans criticising his shying away from the limelight. Ever since his retirement from international cricket, the Ranchi-born has barely been seen outside his farmhouse except for IPL commitments.

MS was seen attending the India vs England first ODI from the stands during the match as the cameras panned towards the spectators.

In a video shared by Star Sports on their official social media handle, Dhoni was seen sitting in the stands, enjoying conversations with his acquaintances.

He was sporting a pair of sunglasses and a black full-sleeve shirt, along with a commentary device attached to his right ear. As the former India captain and current CSK veteran enjoyed the match, he was also seen relishing some tasty treats.

After taking the popcorn, Dhoni put some in his mouth and enjoyed the snack while watching the match live at Edgbaston.

How did Dhoni master England across formats?

Under MS Dhoni's captaincy, India enjoyed tremendous success against England across formats. Dhoni captained India against England in 51 international matches. With the bat, he scored 2,999 runs across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is against England at an average of 40.52.

Even on English soil, Dhoni has amassed 1,488 international runs against England, further underlining his success against the opposition. As captain, he won 40 of those 51 matches, giving him a remarkable win percentage of 78.43, which further established his dominance as both a leader and a batter.

His most prolific year with the bat against the Three Lions came in 2018, when he averaged 55.50 in six matches and scored 111 runs. Against England, he has registered one century and 23 half-centuries across formats.

India’s control in 1st ODI taken back by England

Meanwhile, in the match, England regained control of the momentum that India had firmly established at the very beginning.

After being put in to bat, England lost wickets in quick succession after the 13th over and were reduced to 80/5. However, the grit shown by veteran Joe Root, who scored 76 off 76 balls, and Liam Dawson, who made 68 off 83 balls, helped England post a competitive total of 258.

The Indian bowlers, especially Axar Patel, Gurnoor Brar, and Prasidh Krishna, kept the England batters under control in their home conditions.

Patel's four-wicket haul cleaned up the lower order. Although the Three Lions were expected to be bowled out much earlier, Root and Dawson's 121-run partnership has now posed a significant challenge for the Indian batters in the chase.
