One of India’s most celebrated cricketers, Rahul Dravid could be seen working alongside MS Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The groundbreaking development happened after CSK parting ways with Stephen Fleming, the person in-charge of the five-time champions since 2009 (before that in 2008, he was a CSK player).
CSK head coach role was not available since Fleming took charge in 2009. However, after a few dismal IPL campaigns, coupled with below-par performance from Joburg Super Kings (SA20) and Texas Super Kings (MLC) under his leadership, the Super Kings management had no choice but to cut all the ties with Fleming.
CSK Consider Rahul Dravid For Head Coach Role
As reported by Cricbuzz, the CSK management could bring in Rahul Dravid for IPL 2027, replacing Stephen Fleming as head coach. However, Dravid is not the only option for which CSK would desprate to give the offer.
"We have not decided whether we will go with an Indian or an overseas coach," the CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Cricbuzz.
“He (CSK CEO) did not name names, but said every potential contender - from Rahul Dravid to Hemang Badani - could be in the fray,” the report further added.

Right after India’s famous T20 World Cup triumph on July 29, 2024, Dravid concluded his tenure as the country’s head coach.
After that, he returned to Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2025 as their head coach, only to part ways with them just after one season.
Dravid's Coaching Career Over The Years
Despite being one of India’s most successful cricketers, Dravid kept on serving the country after taking international retirement. He was with India U19 and India A during 2015-2021 stint, of which 2018 U19 World Cup victory in New Zealand was his most popular triumph.
Eventually, he was promoted to senior Men’s team. There, despite being dominant throughout the tournament in ODI World Cup 2023, they suffered a major heartbreak in the final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, to Australia.
However, Dravid won the silverware a few months later in the West Indies during the T20 World Cup 2024, signing off on a high note.
Why CSK Would Look Someone Like Dravid At Helm?
Even though Fleming did not see much of a success at CSK in recent times, his calm composure, coupled with a brilliant cricket mind, helped the Yellow Brigade win five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 (CLT20) titles.
Dravid is a very similar profile like Fleming in terms of nature and knowledge. In fact, he would be an upgrade at CSK head coach role.
Moreover, being an Indian who has played along with MS Dhoni in the past, the chemistry has already been built, and CSK will only reach new heights once again if the move happens in real.
