Jayden Lennox kept on breaking records for New Zealand. And his recent heroics on Monday during their second ODI against the West Indies at Guyana’s Providence Stadium took him to another level.
Not so long ago, Lennox made headlines by taking a wicket on the first ball of his T20I career. On Monday, he registered a career-best figure of 5/19, joining an elite list that includes New Zealand’s greatest spinner of all time, Daniel Vettori.
Jayden Lennox Keeps Raising The Bar For New Zealand
Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford were two of Lennox’s prized wickets during the second ODI between West Indies and New Zealand. Thanks to the left-arm spinner, New Zealand bundled out West Indies within 36 overs, conceding only 136 runs.
In the list of New Zealand spinners who have played ODI cricket, Jayden Lennox’s 5/19 emerged as the third-best individual performance. Only Ish Sodhi and Daniel Vettori had a better single ODI outing than what he did on Monday.

New Zealand Level Series With 'Record-Machine' Lennox
Earlier, New Zealand lost the first ODI of the five-match series. They were bowled out for 267, with Alzarri Joseph doing the most damage for West Indies by picking up four wickets.
Coming to chase, Keacy Carty’s well-crafted 95, coupled with an unbeaten 87 from captain Shai Hope, helped them reach the target with seven balls and as many wickets to spare.
Even Sherfane Rutherford’s blazing 16-ball 22 not out was equally important in helping West Indies get the job done. There, Jayden Lennox leaked 55 runs off his 10 overs for a wicket, of Ackeem Auguste’s.
Nevertheless, Lennox came back strongly in the second ODI. New Zealand still faced difficulties while chasing an easy target.
They were 52/3 at one point and lost two more wickets before crossing the 100-run mark. However, Tom Latham and Michael Bracewell kept their composure and held the fort to the end, completing the chase in 32.4 overs with five wickets in hand.
New Zealand Vs West Indies Again On Thursday
Lennox will be in action once again at Guyana’s Providence Stadium when the third ODI between New Zealand and West Indies takes place on Thursday, July 16.
Keeping in mind that the this is a five-match ODI series, whoever wins next gets an additional advantage to finish things off, at least physiologically.
The fourth and fifth ODIs, meanwhile, will be played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, on July 19 and 21, respectively.
