After doing the unthinkable in Ireland, India are all set for a tougher challenge in England, where they will first play five T20Is and then three ODIs. However, the team management has decided to drop two of their debutants from the last game, Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge, as Shreyas Iyer chose to bat first in the IND vs ENG 1st T20I Toss Update.
Known for doing the unimaginable, the Indian team management has somewhat put the blame on Yadav and Shedge for India’s defeat in the second T20I in Ireland, which resulted in a series loss to the minnows.
Instead of the two bloods, India have brought two wicket-taking spinners, Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakaravarthy, to their starting XI at Chester-le-Street.
Prince Yadav, Suryansh Shedge dropped despite promising starts
Both Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge were fast-tracked to the Indian set-up after extraordinary performances in the IPL 2026. However, the two have dropped after they made their T20I debuts in the IND vs IRE 2nd T20I at Belfast.

Although the fast-bowler donned the Indian blues for the ODIs against Afghanistan, he played his first T20I in Ireland, returning with 3 for 22 on debut.
Meanwhile, Shedge, who came into the Indian T20I setup after Nitish Kumar Reddy's injury, didn’t have a dreamy start to his international career. He was dismissed cheaply on 1 after facing five deliveries, while he bowled two overs to give away 25 runs.
India's selection gamble under the spotlight
As India have dropped two youngsters, they have included two wrist-spinners, Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakaravarthy. Notably, Bishnoi was on bench throughout the two matches in Ireland, while Chakaravarthy made a recovery from his hairline in CoE fracture after missing the Ireland tour.
It is worth mentioning that India adopted a different strategy in Ireland, where the pitches were two-paced and likely to favour spin more, yet the Men in Blue played only finger spinners there.
On the contrary, England's Chester-le-Street is known for offering seam and swing conditions, but the Shreyas Iyer and Gautam Gambhir-led team management has opted for just two fast bowlers in the IND vs ENG 1st T20I.
However, it would be too early to comment on the selection of the spinners.
Abhishek Sharma, Shreyas Iyer score big in IND vs ENG 1st T20I
India chose to bat first in the 1st T20I vs England. The top order didn’t hold up due to the captain Shreyas Iyer’s decision, as Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan were dismissed early. However, Abhishek Sharma, who broke a world record earlier, was at his supreme best during a 24-ball 59.
Iyer, too, batted brilliantly, scoring his first half-century as India’s T20I captain, helping his team’s cause. Shivam Dube also contributed with a fine cameo as the Men in Blue ended their innings on a high of 189/7.
