In a massive development, Ireland head coach Heinrich Malan has stepped down from his position a day after demolishing the World Champions India two-nil in the T20I series at home.
Although Malan's tenure as head coach ran until early 2027, he has resigned after four successful years with the Irish team, calling it a great time for his successor to take over.
Malan's resignation comes at a crucial juncture, as Ireland haven’t qualified for the 2027 World Cup and would want to feature in the marquee event after failing to do so on the previous two occasions.

Mission 2027 WC set for Ireland
Ireland last played in the ODI World Cup in 2015, when they won three of their six league games. However, they missed out on qualification at the 2019 event in England and the 2023 mega-event in India.
Currently, the Irish are in 11th place in the ICC ODI Team Ranking, and the top eight sides will get direct entry to the 14-nation tournament, while South Africa and Zimbabwe have confirmed berths as the hosts. The remaining four teams will come through the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.
The top eight sides (excluding the hosts), who would get direct entries, will be shortlisted by 31 March 2027.
Nevertheless, Ireland's next ODI assignment is a five-match series against Afghanistan at Bready and Belfast, starting on August 5.
