Ravi Shastri's Rare On-Air Mistake Caught [Source: X]
The India tour of England 2026 began with a 5-game T20I series, as the first game was held on July 1 at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. However, at the toss, former coach Ravi Shastri made a massive blunder.
For India, Shreyas Iyer walked out for the coin toss proceedings while Harry Brook was representing England. As both captains gathered together, former Indian coach and cricketer Ravi Shastri hosted the toss.
Ravi Shastri experiences brain fog in the first T20I
Shreyas Iyer won the toss, and he announced that India would bat first. However, Ravi Shastri quickly forgot Iyer’s decision and had to seek help from the people behind the camera.
Not only that, Shastri encountered another brain fog moment. He asked Harry Brook to reveal England’s team combination for the first T20I, and the skipper obliged by naming the entire playing XI.
However, England had already announced their starting combination a day prior to the game, i.e on June 30. Hence, their playing XI was out in public for everyone to see and analyse.
But it seems the information didn’t reach Ravi Shastri as he asked Harry Brook such questions at the toss. This rare brain fog from an experienced commentator and host like Shastri left the fans totally confused as they reacted to his goof-ups on social media.

Shastri’s brain fog catches Shreyas Iyer
Interestingly, Ravi Shastri wasn’t the only one experiencing brain fog at Durham on the eve of India vs England first T20I. India captain Shreyas Iyer accidentally said that this was his first series as skipper.
However, upon realising the fumble, he corrected himself quickly. Iyer’s maiden series as India’s T20I captain was the 2-game series against Ireland that the men in blue lost.
"Certainly, a great opportunity. It is my first... no.. my second series as a captain," Iyer said at toss.
It concluded just a couple of days ago, yet Shreyas Iyer somehow forgot its existence. Regardless, Iyer did say that India would like to forget the setback of the whitewash against Ireland and start this series afresh.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made to wait again
Having said that, India revealed its playing XI at the toss of the first T20I against England. And yet again, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was snubbed.
This is his second international tour with the senior team, and he is yet to be handed a debut cap despite much hype among fans and critics. Instead, India trusted their regular openers, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, to continue for now.
Also, India opted for three spinners, as Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy and Axar Patel will play together. Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Shivam Dube are the only three seam options available.
