Abhishek Sharma Breaks World Record; Leaves SKY Behind With 100 T20I Sixes For India

The former World No.1 batter, Abhishek Sharma, is having a ball in the IND vs ENG 1st T20I at Chester-le-Street. As he smashed a berserk half-century at a rapid pace, the swashbucking opener broke world record and an India record previously held by Suryakumar Yadav. 

Despite losing two wickets early from the other hand, Abhishek kept on going in his gung-ho fashion and stitched a fine partnership with his captain, Shreyas Iyer.

The southpaw completed his half-century in just 20 deliveries, before getting dismissed for a 24-ball 59 off Sam Curran's bowling. 

Abhishek Sharma breaks Suryakumar Yadav's mighty record

Nevertheless, during his blitz, Abhishek Sharma broke Suryakumar Yadav's record of being the fastest Indian to 100 T20I sixes. The former Indian captain got there in his 49th innings, facing 1007 balls. However, the stylish opener has reached the coveted milestone in 48 balls, while he completed it after facing just 785 balls in the shortest format.

In terms of balls faced, West Indies' Evin Lewis (789 balls) and Finn Allen (871) from New Zealand are next to Abhishek Sharma.

Having said that, Lewis completed 100 T20I sixes in just 42 innings, six innings before his Indian counterpart. However, Abhishek holds the world record in terms of balls faced to reach the said milestone.

Abhishek Sharma helps India fly in Chester-le-Street

India lost two early wickets inside the powerplay, but Abhishek Sharma took the responsibility on his shoulders, especially after showing some touch during his unlucky knock in 1st T20I vs Ireland.

At Chester-le-Street, the gung-ho was at his supreme best, as he notched the fastest half-century by an Indian in England, completing his fifty off just 20 balls and breaking the previous best by KL Rahul in 27 deliveries. 

He particularly took on the England seamers, scoring hattrick of boundaries twice in his 24-ball 59. 

Moreover, he became the fastest man to 100 T20I sixes, breaking Evin Lewis' world record. Additionally, he went past Suryakumar Yadav who previous held the record by an Indian. 

Abhishek laid the platform in the Indian innings, while Shreyas Iyer took over in the middle overs. However, the Men in Blue needed a flourishing finish and Shivam Dube gave it to them. As a result, India ended on 189/7 after playing their entire quota of 20 overs
