Vaibhav Sooryavanshi got dismissed cheaply on India debut [Source: X]
In a historic moment, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to make his India debut as he played his first international game against England in the second T20I held at Manchester.
However, his much-hyped innings didn’t last long, as the kid was dismissed in the powerplay itself despite getting a good start. While he showed good touch, the conditions at Old Trafford tested his skill set.
Will Jacks spoils Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s debut
Meanwhile, England all-rounder Will Jacks completely spoilt Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s India debut. He came over to bowl the second-last over of the powerplay in what was an unusual move.
He bowled a flat and quick delivery outside the off stump to Vaibhav. The 15-year-old tried to charge down the pitch, looking to play another attacking shot.
However, Jacks cleverly noticed the youngster advancing and fired the ball wider, beating his bat completely. Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler collected the ball cleanly and immediately broke the stumps.
It was a close stumping, and after third umpire review, Sooryavanshi was sent back on 14 off 10 balls. Will Jacks became the first international bowler to dismiss Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as he put a stoppage to India’s scoring rate.

Sooryavanshi scripts history with debut
Regardless of how his performance turned out, it was indeed a special and historic day for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at Old Trafford. He became the youngest player in the history of Indian cricket to make an international debut.
He beat legend Sachin Tendulkar to don the India cap at the age of just 15. Vaibhav replaced veteran opener Sanju Samson in the playing XI as the wicketkeeper was dropped after a series of low scores against Ireland and England.
Having said that, the debut game didn’t go well for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. But it’s just the start of his career. He is just 15 with a lot of experience to gain. The kid has raw potential that needs to be polished, and playing consistently is the only way to ensure his growth is not stunted.
India lose Abhishek Sharma after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Coming back to the game, after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, India suffered another blow with Abhishek Sharma. After conceding plenty of runs in the over, Sam Curran bounced back by bowling a low full toss at the stumps.
Abhishek, who had looked in sublime touch with a flurry of attacking strokes, attempted another big hit across the line but failed to middle it. The mistimed shot went straight to Tom Banton at deep midwicket, and the fielder didn’t make any mistake
Abhishek Sharma had to depart on 43 off 24 balls, an innings featuring eight fours and one six. And with that, India were down to 65/2. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer later arrived in the middle to rebuild the innings with a gritty partnership.
