Vaibhav Sooryavanshi finally made his international debut as the youngster was named in India’s playing XI for the second T20I of the series against England. Aged 15, the Rajasthan Royals opener became the youngest player in India’s history to play international cricket, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record as set in 1989.
As Sooryavanshi makes his international debut for Team India in England, here is a look at his cap number for the national side.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi cap number on India debut
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become the 122nd player to represent Team India in T20I cricket. The teenage batting prodigy is also the youngest among them all to receive his maiden T20I cap.
Moreover, Sooryavanshi also became the youngest Indian cricketer overall to make his India debut, regardless of the format. Going past Sachin Tendulkar’s 37-year-old record, the Bihar cricketer expectedly became emotional during the pre-match ceremony as he received his cap.

The blistering top-order batter received his cap from none other than T20 World Cup winner and active Indian vice-captain Tilak Varma.
Being the 122nd player to represent Team India, Sooryavanshi was handed India’s T20I cap number 122 to mark another milestone in his already historic rise in the game.
Who is India’s equivalent to cap number 122 in ODIs and Tests?
In Test cricket, former Indian cricketer Ashok Gandotra held cap number 122 for being the 122nd player to represent Team India in the format. Born in Brazil way back in 1948, the cricketer made his Test debut in October 1969 with a home match against New Zealand in Hyderabad.
Former Indian opening batter Sadagoppan Ramesh was the 122nd player to play ODI cricket for India. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in March 1999 during the Pepsi Cup series in Pune. Ramesh was one of two ODI debutants for India in the game alongside Amay Khurasiya.
Samson dropped as Vaibhav Sooryanvanshi opens with Abhishek Sharma
After the no-result in Chester-le-Street earlier this week, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss at Old Trafford in Manchester for the second T20I of the five-match series on Saturday, July 4.
Sanju Samson was dropped from the playing XI considering the wicketkeeper-batter is yet to put up a notable score for India in the ongoing European tour.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, making his debut, opened the innings instead alongside fellow top-order batter Abhishek Sharma.
With both Sooryavanshi and Abhishek opening, Team India got off to a rather cautious start, at least by their standards, reaching just 21-0 at the end of the first three overs of the game.
It is worth noting that the 15-year-old was selected in Indian squad last month by the BCCI after he won the coveted ‘Orange Cap’ of the IPL 2026 season. Sooryavanshi also played a crucial role in guiding India A team to a comprehensive tri-series win in Sri Lanka against the hosts.
