Rajat Patidar's Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a disappointing defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 50 of the ongoing IPL 2026 on May 7. In the rain-affected match, Virat Kohli also struggled with the bat and failed to perform as expected.
After RCB's defeat against Lucknow, the Bengaluru-based franchise shared a video of Virat Kohli, who was seen angry and agitated. It is important to mention that the defeat came at a crucial stage of the tournament as RCB suffered their second consecutive loss.
However, despite the setback, RCB still remains in a strong position in the IPL 2026 points table.
The match itself turned out to be a thrilling contest interrupted multiple times by rain. Lucknow Super Giants eventually secured a nervy nine-run victory through the DLS method to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Mitchell Marsh Powers LSG To Massive Win Over RCB
LSG were invited to bat first in a match reduced to 19 overs per side due to repeated rain interruptions. Australia's star player, Mitchell Marsh, delivered one of the finest innings of the season (111 runs off 56 balls).
He dominated the RCB bowlers from the beginning and stitched a strong 95-run opening partnership with Arshin Kulkarni.

LSG’s innings lost some momentum because of the rain breaks, but skipper Rishabh Pant provided the late fireworks with an unbeaten 32 off only 10 balls. Lucknow eventually posted 209/3, which was later revised to 213 after the target adjustment.
Virat Kohli Fails To Deliver
RCB’s chase got off to a nightmare start. Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami dismissed Jacob Bethell in the opening over before young fast bowler Prince Yadav produced a dream delivery to clean up Virat Kohli for a duck.
Despite the early collapse, Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar brought RCB back into the game with a brilliant 95-run partnership.
However, Prince Yadav turned the match around by dismissing Padikkal and Jitesh Sharma in the same over.
Late contributions from Tim David, Krunal Pandya, and Romario Shepherd kept RCB alive till the final over, but Digvesh Rathi defended 20 runs calmly to seal a memorable win for LSG.
Virat Kohli's Angry Pep Talk After RCB’s Defeat vs LSG
After the LSG vs RCB match, Virat Kohli was seen addressing the entire RCB squad in the dressing room. The viral video showed Kohli speaking passionately and appearing upset over the team’s performance.
Kohli was seen telling the players that they must focus on improving as a unit and avoid losing concentration under pressure.
As one of the most experienced players in the side, Kohli also tried to motivate the players.
"Why did we get those six wins? Because we were enjoying, and we were only worried about our standards, and we’re not even looking at the opposition. And I want to see absolute enjoyment and excitement to get back in the park, regardless of what the jersey colour on the other side is" - Virat Kohli said.
