Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head was caught damaging IPL property during their recent clash against the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. His act was filmed on camera, leading to widespread debate.

SRH faced MI at the Wankhede Stadium on April 29. It was a high-scoring encounter where Hyderabad destroyed Mumbai to seal a commanding 6-wicket victory.

Travis Head caught a kicking IPL robot

Meanwhile, SRH were tasked to chase 244 runs against MI. As openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma walked out to bat, the Aussie collided with the IPL robotic mascot ‘Champak.’

Head was clearly frustrated as he kicked the robot to make way. This whole act was caught on camera and has since gone viral on social media.

Fans are speculating whether Travis Head could be penalised, as the robot is a property owned by the IPL. Causing any harm to him would likely lead to some consequences.

However, so far, neither the BCCI nor SRH have issued any statement on what the next course of action would be. Hence, Travis Head is out of the woods for the time being.

Who is the ‘Champak’ robot?

IPL introduced a robotic dog-shaped camera device in the 2025 season as a mascot and named it ‘Champak.’

It’s a moving broadcast camera system which captures dynamic, low-angle shots on the field, moves around players and umpires and interacts in a playful way, such as handshakes, gestures, etc.

Since its launch, Champak has gone viral. It adds personality to broadcasts and allows players and fans to interact with it. Basically, it humanises a very tech-heavy broadcast.

SRH humble MI at Wankhede

Meanwhile, in the 41st game of IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, Ryan Rickelton’s blazing century guided MI to a steep total of 243 runs.

While Mumbai looked confident, SRH had other plans. Openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma hammered 92 runs in the powerplay and went on to knit a 129-run opening stand in 8.4 overs.

While spinner Allah Ghazanfar struck twice in an over to revive the Mumbai Indians for a brief moment, Heinrich Klaasen didn’t let the SRH fumble. He scored 65* off just 30 balls to guide Sunrisers home.

Youngster Salil Arora also added the finishing touch, scoring 30* off 10 balls to ensure SRH get to the target with 8 balls to spare. With that win, Hyderabad climbed to the third spot on the points table, while MI remained at the ninth spot.

At this rate, Mumbai Indians could most likely be eliminated from the playoff race. They desperately need to get back to winning ways before it's too late as half of the tournament is already over.
