In an unexpected development, an experienced KKR player has landed in fresh controversy over his off-field antics. Screenshots of his chats with a female fan have gone viral, leaving social media divided. 

KKR are already struggling in IPL 2026 with just 2 victories in 8 games. They are currently seated in the eighth position on the points table with 5 points.

Meanwhile, as the IPL 2026 season unfolds, KKR batter Rahul Tripathi has made headlines but for his off-field antics. A female fan named Reem Thakur has alleged that Tripathi used to call her repeatedly.

Not only that, she shared Instagram chats with Tripathi where the KKR batter asked her not to contact him again.

Now, these screenshots are unverified, and neither Rahul Tripathi nor KKR have issued a public statement yet. It’s important to note that Tripath is married. He tied the knot with Sapna years ago.

Rahul Tripathi is currently a part of KKR

That being said, for the IPL 2026 season, Rahul Tripathi was bought by KKR for INR 75 lakhs during the mini-auction. However, the batter is yet to take the field as he is currently warming the bench.

Earlier, Tripathi bagged an INR 3.40 crore contract from CSK in IPL 2025. But that year, he scored only 55 runs in 5 games at 11.00 average.

Overall, in 100 IPL games, Rahul Tripathi has scored 2291 runs, including 12 half-centuries. He spent two seasons with KKR before in 2020 and 2021.

However, with these screenshots now making headlines, it's difficult for Tripathi to get a game in IPL 2026. It's now up to KKR management and captain Ajinkya Rahane to decide how his future should shape up.

Will KKR seek a leadership change?

Coming back to the IPL 2026 season, KKR are struggling at 8th position. After a disappointing previous season and another inconsistent campaign this year, KKR appear stuck without a clear direction, prompting calls for a leadership change.

Amid this, fans believe the franchise should opt for a leadership change. Ajinkya Rahane’s declining strike rate has slowed down the powerplay, putting pressure on the middle order to compensate. 

In a format that increasingly demands aggressive intent from the start, this has made KKR’s batting look outdated and predictable. Moreover, at 37, Rahane is not getting any younger and hence KKR must look for their long-term future. 

Rinku Singh, meanwhile, has emerged as a strong candidate to take over the captaincy. Already the vice-captain, he has shown leadership qualities on the field and has experience captaining Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. 

He is 28 years old, which gives a 5-6 year captaincy window to KKR to build a team identity around him. Ultimately, the debate comes down to long-term vision.
