Fans react to Head's knock vs MI [Source: IPL, X]
For the first time in IPL 2026, Travis Head looked in his midas touch as the Sunrisers Hyderabad stepped out in pursuit of the record run-chase at the Wankhede Stadium, taking on the Mumbai Indians.
Previously in the ongoing season, Head struggled to get going and had the best score of 46 (21) on April 2 at the Eden Gardens. However, as he racked up his first fifty of the season, batting alongside an in-form Abhishek Sharma, fans correlated it to his love affair with Rohit Sharma’s teams.
Fans credit Rohit Sharma for Travis Head’s return to form
Batting first on a flat Wankhede deck, courtesy of a swashbuckling start from Will Jacks and a 123* (55) from Ryan Rickleton, the home team scored 243/5 in the 20 overs. Notably, Hardik Pandya also scored a crucial 31 (15), looking in good form.
As Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma rocked up to chase a rather improbable score, Head had only 186 runs in 8 innings of the season. However, as he has done on multiple occasions against Rohit Sharma’s teams in international as well as IPL cricket, he ripped into the MI bowling and scored a power-packed 76 in just 30 balls.
Previously, Head has also openly spoken about his admiration for Rohit Sharma’s batting, which has caught the attention of the fans, who termed him a Rohit fan, trying to impress his idol. Building on the narrative, people linked Head’s return to form with Rohit Sharma’s presence in the ground.
Like the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup 2023 and the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Head has once again managed to score heavily against Rohit’s team. Noticing this, fans saw a fun element to the matter and flooded Twitter (X) with memes.

Sunrisers emerge as dark horses of IPL 2026
Initially, ahead of IPL 2026, many did not give many chances to the Sunrisers Hyderabad to do great things in the season, considering a bleak bowling attack. With Pat Cummins missing the first half of the season, many believed the bowling attack would not react well to the pressure.
Nonetheless, after Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel’s underwhelming outcomes early in the season, the SRH management looked proactive and gave a nod to the unproven talents like Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain. The spin-attack was led by Harsh Dubey, and the youngsters lived up to their potential.
To go with Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and co.’s batting blitz, the young bowling attack has already helped SRH win five of their 8 matches, as they eye a playoff spot.
With 6 overs to be played at the Wankhede, they are well on track to chase down the highest total at the venue, needing under 10 runs per over.
MI’s wait for Rohit Sharma’s return continues
Having started the season positively with a 78-run knock in the opening match, followed by 35 in the next match, Rohit Sharma briefly held the orange cap in IPL 2026.
However, in the fourth match of the season, he suffered a hamstring injury, which has already seen him out of action for the next four matches. As per the latest update given by Hardik Pandya, the former MI captain could still be on the sidelines for another couple of matches.
