In a brawling episode, Jammu and Kashmir's Captain Paras Dogra was involved in a physical altercation with a Karnataka fielder in the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 Final played at the Hubli Cricket Ground. The ongoing finale has been nothing short of a battlefield, with J&K punching well above their weight.

All the drama unfolded when the Karnataka faster bowlers tried testing Dogra with the short ball ploy. Clueless with the ploy, the Jammu and Kashmir captain failed to negate the bouncers being dished by the likes of Prasidh Krishna, Vyshak Vijaykumar and Vidyadhar Patil. Watching the batter struggle, the Karnataka fielders tried sledging to get under his skin.

Paras Dogra smashes his helmet on fielder's head

On Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 final, after the tense chit-chat and smelling the leather, Paras Dogra pulled Krishna for a boundary in the 101st over. Soon, he charged towards KV Aneesh, the substitute fielder standing at short fine leg. The J&K skipper replied to the sledging by hitting the fielder on his helmet with his own headgear.

Soon, the two umpires, Ulhas Gandhe and Rohan Pandit, came in between and separated the players. Karnataka’s skipper, Devdutt Padikkal, also took the matter to the match official. Although it wasn’t the only alteration that had happened between the two sides.

Karnataka asked some serious questions, and the fielders backed it with regular chirping, which irked the Dogra and Kanhaiya Wadhawan throughout the second day’s morning. It translated into a feud between the J&K duo and Karnataka’s Krishna and Aneesh.

How has Ranji 2025/26 fared so far?

After winning the toss, J&K, playing their maiden Ranji final, decided to bat first against the favourites Karnataka. Answering all the doubters, the underdogs started off really nicely, with Shubham Pundir (121) and Yawer Hassan Khan (88) going big.

As a result, the team from North India lost just two wickets on Day 1, ending the first day on 284/2 after 87 overs. However, they have lost two wickets in the first session of Day 2, but are still in a solid position, with Paras Dogra and Wadhawan heading towards their respective half-centuries.

Interestingly, the number four, Paras Dogra, was hit by a bouncer from Krishna on the first day, which forced him to retire hurt, only to return after Abdul Samad’s departure.

Dogra’s long, ongoing fight with system

Paras Dogra debuted in India’s domestic scene back in 2001/02 for Himachal Pradesh. He soon became a regular feature for them and clubbed five centuries during the 2012-13 Ranji season. The 41-year-old was once a vital cog for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, playing nine matches in IPL 2009. He also represented Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Interestingly, earlier in the semifinal against Bengal, Dogra became only the second player in Ranji history to notch over 10,000 runs after Wasim Jaffer. Despite all that, the 41-year-old is yet to receive an India call-up.
