Usama Mir in action during Vitality Blast [Source: X]
Amidst Pakistan’s ODI series against Australia at home, the out-of-favour Pakistan stars were in the thick of things in England in the Vitality Blast, playing key roles for the respective teams.
Among the prominent names was leg-spinner Usama Mir, whose incredible spell for Worcestershire left Warwickshire clueless on Friday evening. Thanks to a match-winning spell, he out-bowled his counterpart, Usman Tariq, who also had impressive figures of 1/23 (4).
Usama Mir delivers a statement performance in Vitality Blast
The 30-year-old leg-spinner last played for Pakistan over two years ago in 2024 when New Zealand played them ahead of the T20 World Cup. He did not feature in the ICC event in the USA and the West Indies and was never picked in the team again.
Since then, Mir has fallen the pecking order in white-ball cricket, with the likes of Usman Tariq, Abrar Ahmed and Shadab Khan ahead of him.
Despite stiff competition and an underwhelming PSL 2026, the spinner returned in the Worcestershire Rapids for the first time since Vitality Blast 2023 and won them a game single-handedly.
Having picked 1/30 and 1/40 in the first two outings, Mir looked in his element in the home match on May 29 as he picked 3/27 with his crafty spin bowling and helped his team restrict the Warwickshire Bears to only 141 runs. Worcestershire went on to chase the score in 18.5 overs and 6 wickets in hand.

Watch- Usama Mir leaves Ed Barnad clueless
Bowling first on the night, Worcestershire was all over the visitors in the powerplay, reducing them to 45/3 in just 5.5 overs.
When Mir was introduced to the bowling attack, in his first over, he faced captain Ed Barnard at the 7.4 over mark. Bowling from over the wicket, he delivered a ball drifting in on the middle and leg stump, but contrary to Barnard’s expectations, it gripped and turned sharply away from him.
Barnard was looking to steer it on to the on side but was caught off-guard as the ball kissed the outside edge of his bat and wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick grabbed it, despite getting wrong-footed himself.

Usama Mir further cleaned up Vaansh Jani in the next over and subsequently ended his spell, dismissing opener Rob Yates on 45 (31).
Worcestershire bounce back from a crushing defeat
The Worcestershire unit started Vitality Blast 2026 on a positive note when they travelled to Leicestershire for the first match and scored 188/9 in 20 overs and won the match by 18 runs.
However, in the next match back on their home turf, they were taken to the cleaners by Northamptonshire, who scored 191 in 20 overs and bundled the Rapids for just 91 runs in 14.4 overs.
The win over the Bears comes at the right time as they look to regain the winning momentum early in the season and fight for a top-of-the-table finish in the Central and West Group. After 3 matches played, they have 8 points, level with Gloucestershire and Somerset and are 4th on the table. Warwickshire are yet to win any of their games.
