Emotions ran high when India won the historic T20 World Cup for the record third time on Sunday after a comprehensive 96-run victory over New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. And no wonder Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Jay Shah – who were at the stands supporting the Men in Blue – joined the country to express their feelings as well.

Along with Jay Shah, Rohit and Dhoni were previously seen walking out with the trophy just before the T20 World Cup final began. They ended up stealing the spotlight when the camera shifted towards them after Tilak Varma took the final catch of the match. While Dhoni and Jay Shah were seen hugging to celebrate the moment, Rohit was caught teary-eyed while clapping for the side.

India vs New Zealand T20 World Cup Highlights

India were in the upper hand right from the T20 World Cup final began against New Zealand. They raced to 92/0 within the Powerplay, as Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma tore apart the New Zealand attack, led by Mitchell Santner.

Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dube gave their best as well, as India broke multiple records by piling up 255/5 on the board. Hardik Pandya played a breezy cameo as well, making 18 off 13 balls.

Coming to defend, New Zealand lost Finn Allen and Rachin Ravindra early. Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman did not last long either, as Tim Seifert had to fight a lone battle to keep New Zealand in the game. However, it was never enough to get the near-impossible job done, as he never had the support until he fell for a 26-ball 52, against Varun Chakaravarhy.

Eventually, New Zealand were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs, with Jasprit Bumrah leading from the front with an incredible spell of 4/15 off his four overs. Bumrah was later adjudged the Player of the Match, while Samson won the Player of the Tournament award, becoming the third Indian to achieve the feat after Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah.

Axar Patel was equally impressive at home, claiming 3/27 in his three overs, while Hardik Pandya, Varun and Abhishek had a wicket each.
