On Wednesday, November 4, India and New Zealand clashed in the 1st ODI. The Men in Blue, bowling first, restricted the Kiwis to just 185 runs. Gurnoor Brar was the pick of the bowlers, as he took a three-wicket haul.

New Zealand were 146/9, but Jacob Duffy and Blair Tickner stitched a 39-run stand for the last wicket. Tickner was New Zealand’s top scorer as he scored 34 (23) which featured 4 sixes.

Tickner was all set for a big score, but Gurnoor Brar’s sledging did the trick, and India managed to reduce New Zealand to less than 200 runs on the board.

On the 1st ball of the 41st over, Gurnoor Brar bowled a back of the length delivery that Tickner made room for himself and could not connect. The Indian bowler was frustrated by the failed attempt and gestured to the Kiwi batter, teaching him how to hit a pull shot.

Meanwhile, Tickner too mocked Gurnoor and told him to bowl at stumps. On the very next delivery, Gurnoor Brar sticked to his plans and bowled a short delivery, but Tickner tried to pull it. However, this time, there was a thick edge off the bat, and KL Rahul made no mistake behind the wicket.

Blair Tickner Scripts Massive Feat Batting At No. 11

As mentioned above, New Zealand would have tumbled for less than 150 runs on the board had it not been for Blair Tickner. The star bowler equalled the record for most sixes hit by a No.11 batter in ODIs.

Most 6s by a Number 11 Batter in an ODI Innings:

  • 4 - Mohammad Amir (Pakistan) vs England, Nottingham, 2016
  • 4 - Naseem Shah (Pakistan) vs New Zealand, Hamilton, 2025
  • 4 - Blair Tickner (New Zealand) vs India, Auckland, 2026, Today*

Not only that, but Tickner fell short by 4 runs from scripting the feat for the highest individual score by a No. 11 player.

Highest Individual Score for Number 11 Batter vs India in ODIs:

  • 37 - Joel Garner (West Indies), Manchester, 1983
  • 34 - Blair Tickner (New Zealand), Auckland, 2026, Today*
  • 31* - Shane Bond (New Zealand), Auckland, 2003
