Joe Root and Sachin Tendulkar - (Source: AFP)
On Tuesday, November 3, India legend Sachin Tendulkar spent his free time interacting with fans. The Master Blaster held an ‘ask me anything’ session where he was asked about England star Joe Root closing in on his Test runs tally.
For the unversed, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most Test runs (15921). However, Joe Root is not far away, and the right-handed batter is just 1643 runs shy of going past Sachin Tendulkar’s run-tally.
There is a massive debate on the internet about whether the 35-year-old will cross Sachin’s tally or the Master Blaster will enjoy more years at the top. Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar himself has opined his views on the debate for the first time.
Sachin Tendulkar Heaps Massive Praise On Joe Root
Sachin Tendulkar, in his usual demeanour, heaped massive praise on Joe Root and stated that he believed in England’s star’s abilities from Day 1.
“I’ve always rated him very highly, and it was evident to me in his first Test match that he was going to make it big,” remarked Sachin Tendulkar during his ‘Ask me anything ’ session.
It is worth noting that Joe Root made his Test debut in 2012, and it took him just 14 years to close on Sachin’s feat. The 35-year-old has played 169 Tests, scoring 14278 runs for England, averaging 50.45 with the bat.
If Root manages his current fitness level, then scoring 1643 runs should not be a difficult task for him, given England Cricket plays a plethora of Tests in a calendar year and Root has plenty of time left.
Sachin Tendulkar Names Joe Root As One Of His Favourite Non-Indian Batters
During the same session, Sachin Tendulkar was asked to name-drop his favourite non-Indian batter. In reply, the Master Blaster picked Harry Brook, Steve Smith, and Joe Root as his three favourite non-Indian batters.
Notably, the respect is mutual, and Joe Root has often expressed his admiration for Sachin Tendulkar in the past. The two Test talismans also share a great camaraderie.
