Cricket has always been about more than just scoreboards and trophies. Time and again, the game has produced moments of sportsmanship and mutual respect that tend to leave a lasting impression among players and fans alike.

One such incident unfolded shortly after the one-sided final of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, as it took place at Lord’s in London on Sunday, July 5. With Australia securing a comprehensive seven-wicket win to lift its seventh T20 World title, a dejected Sophie Ecclestone was spotted getting consoled by young Georgia Voll near the boundary ropes.

Voll, Ecclestone recreate Andrew Flintoff, Brett Lee moment

Much reminiscent of Georgia Voll’s consoling moment with Sophie Ecclestone, former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff was seen comforting Australia’s Brett Lee more than two decades ago in England.

The incident occurred after the Australian cricket team suffered a heart-breaking two-run defeat in the second Test of the historic 2005 Ashes series. Flintoff walked up to a dejected Brett Lee and gave the latter a sporting pat on the back apart from offering some words of sportsmanship.

Beth Mooney bulldozes England as Australia lifts seventh title

Australian captain Sophie Molineux won the toss and opted to field first at Lord’s. Her bowlers Lucy Hamilton and Annabel Sutherland responded with a wicket each inside the powerplay overs, that of England Women openers Amy Jones and Danni Wyatt-Hodge.

Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt at number three punched out an elegant 58* off 53 balls with five cracking boundaries. Freya Kemp blasted 44* from just 28 balls to turbo charge the English innings at the death as the hosts reached a competitive 150-4 in 20 overs.

For Australia, captain Molineux and Kim Garth also picked up a wicket each in the innings.

Chasing 151 for a win, Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield shared a 100-run partnership for the second wicket. Mooney bludgeoned 64 runs off just 49 balls, before all-rounders Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner notched up the winning runs together in 17.1 overs.

Mooney won the ‘Player of the Match’ award in the final, and also bagged the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award.
