In the IPL 2026 match 52 between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans, the Shubman Gill-led side have dealt a heavy blow as Washington Sundar left the field due to fresh injury. Notably, the injury prone India star got hit on his wrist.

The incident occurred on the last ball of the 12th over when Sundar, who was fielding at short-cover, got hit on his wrist, following which the physios took him out of the field.

Washington Sundar's IPL 2026 participation hangs in doubt

Notably, Sundar got hit on his wrist because of uneven bounce. It was a solid shot from Dasun Shanaka, but the ball bounced at the wrong moment and it hit him on the wrist before racing away for a four.

Washington Sundar was in a lot of pain and didn't even argue with the physios to stay on the field. The scene didn't look good and now Gujarat Titans' management are sweating hard over their star player's fitness.

Wrist injuries are nasty blows and players usually take a lot of time to recover from his impacts. Therefore, Sundar's further participation in the remainder of the season is in doubt. 

At the time of writing this article, Sundar is still out of the field and even Shubman Gill was forced to bring a change in the bowling unit.

Washington Sundar's Impactful Season For GT in IPL 2026

Washington Sundar is having a great season for Gujarat Titans and his absence will be a big blow for the one-time winners. Notably, the southpaw has been batting at No.4 and has made his presence felt so far in the tournament.

Shedding light on his numbers, Washington Sundar has scored 246 runs in 11 innings. Also, in the ongoing match, the right-arm off-spinner also roled his arms. The 26-year-old bowled two overs and gave away 10 runs, bowling an economical spell before getting injured and going out of the field.

Washington Sundar Prone To Injuries

Washington Sundar is not new to injuries. The star India player nearly missed the T20 World Cup 2026 because of his injury woes. For the unversed, during India vs New Zealand series, Washington Sundar fractured his rib, following which he had to go to the CoE to recover.

Notably, the injury took more time than expected to heal, which is why Gujarat Titans are sweating hard over their star player's fitness. However, talking about the recently concluded match, the Shubman Gill-led side didn't miss Sundar enough as they registered a comfortable 77-run win.

With the big win, GT moved to 2nd on the table and are now quite favourite to qualify for the playoffs for the 2nd straight season.
