Former Punjab cricketer Amanpreet Singh Gill has passed away. Aged 36, the fast bowler represented the India Under-19 team as well as the Kings XI Punjab franchise (now Punjab Kings) in the IPL during his playing days.

The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has since expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of the cricketer-turned-selection committee member.

Punjab Kings alumni pass away at age 36

Amanpreet Singh Gill passed away on Wednesday, May 6. Born in September 1989 in Chandigarh, the former cricketer passed away at the age of just 36 years and 232 days.

Apart from representing the Punjab Kings franchise in the IPL, the Punjab cricket team in India’s domestic competition as well as the India U19 team; Amanpreet also served as a member of Punjab’s senior selection committee.

Expressing deep grief and sorrow over the demise of the former cricket, the PCA took to their social media accounts and wrote “Punjab Cricket Association deeply mourns the sad demise of Amanpreet Singh Gill, former Punjab cricketer and Member, Senior Selection Committee Punjab.”

The association also offered condolences to Amanpreet’s family during their hour of grief and mourning, adding “Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family in this difficult time.”

The association also confirmed that the cremation of Amanpreet Singh Gill will be taking place on the same day at 4:00 PM at the Manimajra Cremation Ground in Chandigarh.

Cricket fraternity reacts to Amanpreet Singh Gill’s sudden passing

The news of Amanpreet Singh Gill’s passing came as a heartbreaking development for the Punjab cricket circuit. Several fans and followers offered condolences under the PCA’s official statement mourning the former cricketer’s demise.


Since the day also marks Punjab Kings’ away IPL 2026 fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise, one can expect the visiting players to wear black armbands in tribute of its former cricketer.

The match between the Punjab Kings and SRH franchises will be hosted by the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, May 6 from 7:30 PM IST onwards.

A look back at the career of Amanpreet Singh Gill

Amanpreet Singh Gill was a part of the India Under-19 team back in the mid-2000s. He even toured Sri Lanka in July 2007 for an Under-19 Tri-series with Bangladesh serving as the third team.

Playing alongside the likes of future Team India stars like Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey, Amanpreet picked up nine wickets in just five matches of the series. The speedster also delivered a match-winning spell of 2-14 against Bangladesh U19 in Colombo in the final as India clinched the tri-series by a comprehensive 129-run margin.

The talented fast bowler also played six first-class matches for the Punjab cricket team, doing so between the 2006-07 Ranji Trophy and 2008-09 Ranji Trophy seasons in India.

While he was also a part of the Punjab Kings franchise during the formative years of the IPL, the cricketer did not receive a single crack in the team’s playing XI.
