According to the former BCCI president, Sharad Pawar, the major event was originally set to be hosted at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, but had to be shifted out because the capacity of the DY Patil Stadium is much higher.

Moreover, the trophy clash in 2008 was played between the Shane Warne-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) and MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK), with RR clinching the trophy.

Which venue has hosted the most IPL finals?

Chepauk has a special place in IPL, not only for the electric Chennai crowd but also for the many iconic moments it has witnessed, including CSK's 2011 title win at home.

Eden Gardens, on the other hand, has hosted two finals in 2013 and 2015, and Mumbai Indians emerged victorious on both occasions.

However, Ahmedabad’s fast-rising cricket is matching its legacy in just a few years. The BCCI has frequently hosted IPL finals in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium because its massive seating capacity of 132,000 maximises revenue, crowd attendance, and the atmosphere for premier matches.

The Ahmedabad stadium has hosted three IPL finals and is set to host the fourth on May 31, 2026, making it the venue that has hosted the most IPL finals.

With that in mind, here’s a look at every venue that has hosted the IPL final, from the traditional homes of Indian cricket to the makeshift hubs created during COVID seasons.
