Young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opened up on playing Test cricket for India after receiving his maiden call-up for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earned his first-ever call-up, as the BCCI selection committee included him in the India T20I squad for the UK tour.
While Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan made it into the team as first-choice top-order batters, Sooryavanshi was fast-tracked to the senior team following his remarkable performance for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2026.
Anticipation built around Sooryavanshi, the Test cricketer, during IPL 2026
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became a household name after breaking multiple batting records through a string of impactful performances for Rajasthan Royals.
Opening the batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sooryavanshi struck 776 runs and claimed several awards and accolades, including the Orange Cap and the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
As Sooryavanshi continued to grab the headlines with breathtaking knocks, cricket experts started viewing him as an option worth investing in for the growth of Test cricket.

Several former cricketers, including Ravichandran Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara and Dale Steyn, spoke at length about his potential to not only thrive in red-ball cricket but also restore the format's popularity by drawing spectators into the ground to watch him play.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breaks silence on his Test ambitions
While the experts believe Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can be India's next big thing across formats, the youngster certainly has the option to utilise his T20 expertise and explore more opportunities in the shortest format.
Practically speaking, T20 cricket has become a platform for cricketers to earn money and stabilise themselves financially.
The mushrooming of franchise leagues has empowered cricketers from all around the globe, and Sooryavanshi, being a top-tier six-hitting machine, can lure multiple teams as well as business brands by staying committed to the shortest format.
Therefore, a section of cricket fans doubted whether Sooryavanshi wanted to invest his time and energy in Test cricket, despite being aware of his brand value in T20 cricket.
Speaking to Rajasthan Royals' team manager Romi Bhinder, Sooryavanshi silenced his doubters, clarifying his stance to play all three formats for the Indian team.

"A lot of people have been asking and discussing whether I want to play red-ball cricket in the future or not. So I answered that by saying I've already done a lot of practice with the red ball and continue to do so. I've also played plenty of red-ball cricket for my state and I still play it," Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said in a video shared by Rajasthan Royals.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ready to adapt in Test cricket
While Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is known for exhilarating stroke-play and scoring runs at a rapid pace, Test cricket demands patience, grit and determination to succeed under challenging conditions.
Sooryavanshi believes that although he has gained popularity as a fearless striker of the ball, he has the ability to adapt to the conditions in Test cricket.
Speaking to Romi Bhinder, Sooryavanshi reckoned he would adjust to the playing conditions and modify his batting approach if the BCCI introduces him to Tests.
"I want to play red-ball cricket because I train for it regularly. The reason I bat the way I do in this format is because that's what this format demands. When I play red-ball cricket, I'll adapt my batting to whatever the format requires. Similarly, in ODIs, I'll adjust according to the demands of that format. My dream is to play all three formats. The rest is in God's hands," Sooryavanshi concluded.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in red-ball cricket: What do the numbers tell?
While Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is confident that his adaptability will help him succeed in Tests, his First-Class record is abysmal, to say the least.
Sooryavanshi has played eight FC matches, managing only 207 runs at a modest average of 17.25 with a single fifty-plus score across 12 innings.
Having said that, the explosive batter showed glimpses of his red-ball potential on India U19 team's tour of England and Australia, amassing 223 runs at a decent average of 31.85.
All in all, it will be exciting to watch him bat in Test cricket, and India will indeed benefit from his blitzkrieg if Vaibhav Sooryavanshi follows the footsteps of the legendary Virender Sehwag and establishes himself as an all-format great going forward.
