Tilak Varma surged back into form this IPL 2026 against Gujarat Titans. Dasun Shanaka has been slapped with a one-year PSL ban by the PCB. In other news, Nahid Rana fired Bangladesh to a huge win over New Zealand in the second ODI.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Monday, April 20.

Dasun Shanaka banned from PSL by PCB

Sri Lanka all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been slapped with a one-year PSL ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for ditching the PSL 2026 season this year. It is worth noting that Shanaka had originally signed a contract with Lahore Qalandars, but later joined the Rajasthan Royals camp in India for IPL 2026 as a replacement for injured Sam Curran.

Interestingly, Shanaka is now the second cricketer to be banned by the PCB after Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani.

Tilak Varma clubs fastest Mumbai Indians century

Tilak Varma bludgeoned 101* runs off just 45 balls against Gujarat Titans in match 30 of the IPL 2026 season in Ahmedabad. The left-hander clattered eight boundaries and seven sixes to notch up his maiden fifty-plus score of the tournament, and his first century overall in IPL.

The innings also marked the joint-fastest century by any Mumbai Indians batter in the history of the league, joining Sanath Jayasuriya’s 45-ball effort from the inaugural edition.

Nahid Rana decimates NZ as Bangladesh levels series

Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana decimated New Zealand with exceptional figures of 5-32 in his 10 overs. His spell skittled the visitors for just 198 in 48.4 overs in the second ODI of the series in Mirpur. The speedster has now claimed one of the best bowling figures by any Bangladeshi bowler in ODI matches against New Zealand.

Fittingly, Bangladesh also won the match by six wickets in 35.3 overs to level the series 1-1.

England launch new team jerseys

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has unveiled new jerseys for the England men’s team. With Toyota maintaining their jersey sponsorship with the ECB, the board has come up with three distinct jerseys, one each for the three international forms of the game.

While the board sharpened the whites in England’s Test jersey, they retained the color blue and red for England’s ODI and T20I jerseys respectively.
