Bangladesh recently won the second ODI of the three-game series against New Zealand by 6 wickets, thus keeping the series alive. And ahead of the final deciding game, the Tigers have made an important addition to their squad.

The series is currently played in Dhaka. After losing the first ODI by 26 runs, Bangladesh made a comeback in the second game in what was a do-or-die contest.

Meanwhile, the third and series-deciding ODI is scheduled for Thursday, April 23. Ahead of the crucial game, Bangladesh made a crucial addition to their squad by recalling pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib into the ODI setup.

Shakib last played an ODI in October last year. He was also snubbed from the last ODI series against Pakistan due to a back injury. Hence, the BCB decided to rest him from the first 2 ODIs against New Zealand as well.

However, now that the right-arm pacer is fit to play, Bangladesh have recalled him for the third ODI.

In his 15-game ODI career, Tanzim Hasan Sakib has picked up 24 wickets at an average of 27.29 and an economy of 5.75.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (captain), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Afif Hossain, Mahidul Islam, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

Mustafizur Rahman’s injury adds to Bangladesh’s woes

Meanwhile, the inclusion of Tanzim Hasan Sakib into the ODI squad also makes sense because Bangladesh lost Mustafizur Rahman to a right knee niggle just days before the series began.

He complained of some discomfort during the warm-ups and was hence rested for the first two ODIs against New Zealand. His fitness remains a concern heading into the decider.

Regardless, Bangladesh still have a strong pace attack featuring Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Nahid Rana.

Bangladesh beat New Zealand in the second ODI

Meanwhile, in the second ODI held at Dhaka, Bangladesh beat New Zealand by 6 wickets to level the three-game series. Batting first, the Kiwis were bowled out for just 198 runs.

Despite Nick Kelly’s 83-run knock, the middle and lower order couldn't form big partnerships, resulting in a collapse. Nahid Rana was the star of the night for Bangladesh as he picked up a 5-wicket-haul for 32 runs in his 10 overs.

On the other hand, in the chase, Tanzid Hasan Tamim led the charge, scoring 76 off 58 balls. Najmul Shanto supported him with an unbeaten half-century off 71 balls.

Towhid Hridoy also added 30 runs as Bangladesh wrapped up the chase in just 35.3 overs to seal a commanding 6-wicket victory.
