In the recent IPL 2026 game between the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, Jasprit Bumrah broke his wicket-less curse, and his victim was none other than GT opener Sai Sudharsan.

Batting first, Mumbai posted 199 runs on the board at the loss of 5 wickets after Tilak Varma stepped up with a blazing century off 45 balls. In the chase, however, GT had a nightmarish start.

Jasprit Bumrah gets Sai Sudharsan for a golden duck

Meanwhile, in the second inning, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya made a tactical change to hand over the new ball to his key weapon, Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah, who had been wicketless so far in the IPL 2026 season, struck gold on the very first delivery. It was a full-length delivery that shaped away, and Sai Sudharsan went for an expansive drive without moving his feet.

Sudharsan sliced off the toe-end rather than making a clean connection, and the ball didn't travel. Krish Bhagat, stationed perfectly at cover point inside the circle, just had to complete a routine catch.

Meanwhile, this is the first time Sai Sudharsan had been dismissed on a golden duck in the IPL as a Gujarat Titans opener, and Jasprit Bumrah also got his first wicket in the IPL 2026 season.

These unexpected moments set social media ablaze as fans shared their reactions and opinions. While some praised Bumrah, others also criticised Sudharsan for a brain-fade moment.

Tilak Varma stood up for the Mumbai Indians

Meanwhile, in the first innings, the Mumbai Indians put up a commanding 199 on the board, thanks largely to a sensational unbeaten 101 off just 45 balls from Tilak Varma.

Despite starting slow and struggling with cramps, he stayed till the end and ensured MI finished on a high. Mumbai, interestingly, scored over 90 runs in the last 6 overs alone.

Apart from Tilak, Naman Dhir contributed with 45 runs. Despite Kagiso Rabada picking up 3 wickets, the Gujarat Titans never truly controlled the innings. 199 on Ahmedabad’s surface was a strong and slightly above-par total.

Gujarat Titans lose captain in tricky chase

That being said, in the chase, the Gujarat Titans had a horrible start. After losing Sai Sudharsan on a golden duck, GT saw Jos Buttler depart on 5 off 6 balls.

To add to their misery, in-form skipper Shubman Gill was also dismissed on 14 off 13 balls. Ashwani Kumar banged in a short ball at the body, and Gill shuffled across to the leg side early.

He wasn’t in control, and instead of rolling his wrists or keeping it down, he went through with the pull, and that’s where it went wrong.

The ball didn’t have enough pace or placement to clear the fielder, and Naman Dhir, stationed in the deep, barely had to move to pick a simple catch you’ll see.  With that wicket, the Gujarat Titans lost 3 wickets at just 40 runs on the board.
