Tilak Varma went ballistic against Gujarat Titans in match number 30 of the IPL 2026 season. The struggling Mumbai Indians batter notched up his first fifty-plus score of the tournament, and converted it into a scintillating 45-ball ton to register his magnum opus IPL performance.

Tilak’s blitzkrieg elevated the Mumbai Indians from 44-3 to a monumental 199-5 after they were put into bat first by home skipper Shubman Gill at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday, April 20.

At one stage of the Mumbai Indians innings, the charismatic middle-order batter launched Titans fast bowler Ashok Sharma for 26 runs in an over. Varma’s hard-hitting exhibition even evoked an animated reaction from his captain Hardik Pandya.

Tilak Varma, batting at number five for the Mumbai Indians, slapped 101* off just 45 balls with eight boundaries and seven sixes against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. The hard-hitting left-hander notched up 26 of those runs in a space of just six deliveries during the 18th over of the innings bowled by Titans fast bowler Ashok Sharma.

The cricketer started off the death over with a six, which also took him to a 33-ball half-century. He followed it up with successive boundaries towards short fine leg and mid-off respectively. Varma cleared the fence off the next two balls to make it 26 runs from five balls, before Ashok sent down a dot delivery hurled at over 150kph.

Notably, the youngster was struggling at the crease earlier in his innings, reaching 19* off 22 balls before he got quite an earful from his captain Hardik Pandya. It seems like Pandya’s motivational words got to Tilak Varma as he bludgeoned 82* runs off his next 23 deliveries to hit his maiden IPL century.

A couple of overs later, Tilak Varma also launched fellow Gujarat Titans fast bowler and Indian Test specialist Prasidh Krishna for 22 runs in an over. Varma’s late hitting took him to a 45-ball century, reaching the landmark figure by hitting a six and a boundary off the final two balls.

Mumbai Indians also mounted 199-5 in 20 overs after being put into bat first.

Varma notches up best IPL score

The innings also marked Varma’s highest IPL score, bettering his previous best of 84* off 46 balls against the RCB back in IPL 2023 in Bengaluru. The prolific left-hander also hit his first fifty-plus score of the ongoing IPL 2026 season, after starting off the tournament with 43 runs in five innings at a dismal average of 8.60.

In the game against Delhi Capitals earlier this month, the cricketer was dismissed for a duck, and he registered single-digit scores against the RCB and Punjab Kings over the past one week.
