In an incredible moment of brilliance on Sunday afternoon, the Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper, Dhruv Jurel, pulled off one of the best stumpings of all time, dismissing the dangerous Cameron Green at the Eden Gardens.
Among all the plaudits from across the cricketing fraternity, a notable compliment came from the former RR and Chennai Super Kings spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Responding to a fan, Ashwin compared the brilliant glove-work from Jurel to that of one of India’s former wicketkeepers, which wasn’t MS Dhoni.
Fans immediately took notice of the comparison on Monday morning, and Ashwin received contrasting reactions, with many agreeing with his point.
Ashwin ridicules Dhoni comparisons to Jurel’s stumping
The incident in the match came during the second innings, as KKR, in search of their first win of the season, were tasked to chase down 156 runs at home.
Upon losing both openers for ducks within 8 balls, the star batter from the last match, Cameron Green, was going berserk once again, when Dhruv Jurel did the unthinkable behind the wickets. At the 4.4 over mark, as Green stepped out to take on Ravi Bishnoi, the bowler outfoxed him with a ball down the leg after seeing him charge in.
The acrobatic Dhruv Jurel collected the ball way down the leg and managed to reverse flick it to the stumps and dismissed Green for 27(13). Nonetheless, in a final over thriller, KKR managed to win the match by 4 wickets and collected 2 points.
In the aftermath of the match, as Ashwin praised Jurel’s stumping on his Twitter (X) account, a fan called it a “Dhonish moment” but Ashwin corrected him and compared Jurel’s heroics to Dinesh Karthik’s keeping, referring to the famous 2004 stumping, when Karthik stumped Michael Vaughan acrobatically at Lord’s.

Blip in RR’s high-flying IPL 2026
The Rajasthan Royals, under the new leadership of Riyan Parag, got off to an incredible start to IPL 2026, winning all four of their first games, courtesy of performances from across the board. In focus was the teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who briefly donned the orange cap, alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The bowling attack, led by Jofra Archer’s express pace and Ravi Bishnoi’s crafty leg-spin, has also been doing well. However, after collecting 8 points and going top of the table, RR have suffered consecutive losses to SRH by 57 runs and KKR by 4 wickets and 2 balls left.
After 6 matches played, they sit 3rd on the table behind RCB, who also have 8 points and PBKS, who are unbeaten after 6 matches and have 11 points.
KKR look to bounce back after forgettable start
The three-time champions KKR, after a poor IPL 2025 campaign, were on the lookout to find some momentum with a revamped squad after the auctions. However, with injuries to important players and stars under-firing, they failed to win any of their first 6 matches, collecting only 1 point due to rain.
However, as Matheesha Pathirana joins the squad at the halfway stage, with 3 points to their name, they will look to stage a comeback into the season and go on a winning run with this newfound motivation.
