Tilak Varma scripted history on Monday, April 20, when Mumbai Indians locked horns against Gujarat Titans. The southpaw slammed a 45-ball century, which broke a plethora of records.
In the ongoing match, Tilak Varma walked in to bat when MI were reduced to 44/3 after 5.5 overs. The 23-year-old played according to the situation and slammed a 33-ball fifty. However, he accelarated like no other batter and took 12 more balls to reach next fifty.
Eventually, Tilak scored a 45-ball century, which is the joint-fastest hundred in MI's history.

Tilak Varma equalled Sanath Jayasuriya's record, who slammed a 45-ball hundred back in 2008, the innuaugral edition of IPL. Talking about Indians, Tilak shattered Suryakumar Yadav's century record as he took 4 fewer deliveries than the India captain. Here is the complete list.

Tilak Varma also scored his highest-ever individual score for Mumbai Indians. He achieved the feat at the young age of 23. Further, he shattered Rohit Sharma's record by becoming the youngest Indian to score a century for Mumbai Indians.

Tilak Varma Battles Pain, Silences Critics With Brilliant Knock
Before this match, Tilak Varma was under heavy pressure as the southpaw only scored 43 runs in five matches. There were even demands to drop Tilak from the team for his sluggish knocks.
However, with the century knock, Tilak silenced his critics. Not just that but, there was a point in the match where the southpaw could have walked off the field due to injury.
Notably, in the 18th over of the match, Tilak smashed Ashok Sharma for 26 runs, but on the last ball of the same over, he was hit on the box. The youngster was in pain as he recently underwent a surgery for testical torsien. However, he beared the pain and continued batting.

Eventually, Tilak's knock helped MI put 199/5 on the board. In reply, at the time of writing this article, Gujarat Titans are in deep trouble as they are 19/2 after 2 overs. It is worth noting that MI have never defeated GT at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
