On Monday, June 22, India star Tilak Varma scripted history after the 23-year-old slammed a record-breaking century in Telangana T20 2026. Notably, the league kickstarted on Sunday, June 21.

The southpaw is captaining the side, Medak Falcons, and slammed a quick 43-ball century to hog the internet. His knock featured 14 fours and seven sixes.

Tilak Varma’s Century Helps Medak Falcons Script Record Run-Chase

It was a match to witness between Warangal Warriors and Medak Falcons as the surface turned out to be a batting paradise. Warriors, batting first, rode on Aman Rao’s 142-run knock, which helped the side put 258 runs on the board.

It was a mammoth run-chase, and the Falcons lost two early wickets. However, Tilak Varma took the onus on his shoulders and scored 136 (56), which featured 14 fours and seven sixes. He batted at a strike rate of 242.86 and silenced his critics.

With the knock, he also helped Medak Falcons register the highest-ever run chase in Telangana T20 league history. It is only the first season, and there have been three matches so far, but this one feels like it is holding on for a long time.

Tilak Varma Returns To Action Just A Day After Tri-Series

What makes Varma’s knock extra special is the fact that he returned to action just a day after returning from Sri Lanka. For the unversed, the southpaw was leading India A in the recently concluded tri-series involving Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.

Under the leadership of the 23-year-old, India A won the series, and the southpaw, too, had a great series with the bat. The left-handed batter scored 275 runs in 5 innings, averaging 55.50. His only criticism was his strike rate, which was around 75.

There were doubts about whether he is the right fit because he will next tour Ireland for the T20Is. However, the southpaw silenced his critics in style and showed that he is in the right frame of mind to play T20 cricket.

Tilak Varma To Leave TPL After One Match

Unfortunately for Medak Falcons, they won’t be able to enjoy Tilak’s services further because the southpaw was only available for a solitary match. Now, Tilak will fly out of India to the UK for the upcoming Ireland and England tour.

Interestingly, after the match, the Falcons’ players gave a special honour to the youngster. The entire team surrounded the southpaw following the win and gave him a salute, while he struck his signature celebration.

India will first visit Ireland for a two-match T20I series which begins from June 26. There is a very little time left for practice, which is why the Telangana T20 league served as the perfect practice ground for the 23-year-old.
