Virat Kohli Himself Confirms His Test Cricket Future

After days of speculation that Virat Kohli is mulling his Test retirement, the 37-year-old has himself confirmed his Test future. Kohli, who is currently in Delhi, India for his brand premier, talked about Test cricket and addresssed the rumours circulating on social media.

For the unversed, Virat Kohli announced his India Test retirement in May 2025, which took everyone by surprise. Virat ended his dream to score 10000 Test runs abruptly, but in the last few days, there has been a whisper around social media that the red-ball talisman might return for another stint.

Virat Kohli Shuts Rumour Mills, Denies Test return

In the latest events, as mentioned above, Virat Kohli is in India for an event, where he was asked about his Test return. However, the 37-year-old shut the rumour mill and clarified that he is not reversing his retirement. 

Interestingly, the conversation started when the host pointed out that Virat has priced his One8 shoes for 9230 rupees (the exact amount of runs he scored in Test cricket). Hence, the host asked whether he wants to return to Test cricket and add more runs, so that he can earn more money by selling the shoes at a higher price.

However, Virat remarked, ‘I am done with it’.

  • Q: (Danish Sait) The Red shoe has been priced at Rs 9230 (Virat’s Test runs), so would you want to return to Test cricket (and add more runs) to make the shoe make more money?
  • A: (Virat Kohli) Na na I would rather undersell…am done with it (Test cricket)

Virat Kohli's Childhood Coach Fuels Test Return Rumours

The latest wave of Virat Kohli's Test return started recently when his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma revealed that he and Virat are discussing about later's future in Test cricket. 

“Many people have told me to ask Virat to return to Test cricket because he listens to you. We are talking about it; let’s see what happens,” he said with a smile.

Virat Kohli Struggling To Return To ODIs With Injury

Leaving aside the Test return, Virat, at present is struggling to return to ODIs because of fitness issue. Notably, the 37-year-old suffered a hamstring injury and extended his injury by continuing to play.

It eventually led to Virat Kohli missing the Afghanistan ODIs. Now, the question is whether he will return for England ODIs or not. On Sunday, June 21, the BCCI released a 15-member squad for India's upcoming tour.

Virat Kohli has returned to the squad, but he is subject to fitness. On June 22, the 37-year-old will undergo a fitness test at the CoE, which will see whether the medical team issues him a green signal to go and play against England.
