Shubman Gill certainly had a game to forget against New Zealand on Saturday in Wellington. He dropped a simple catch to give a lifeline to Daryl Mitchell and followed it up with a golden duck as Jacob Duffy dismissed him in the second over.

On a Wellington wicket that had the seam movement to trouble any batter, Duffy bowled a dream delivery to end the Indian captain’s innings in the second ODI as the Men in Blue lost an early wicket.

Gill registers his first-ever golden duck in ODIs

Duffy bowled a good length ball on the off stump as Shubman Gill played with hard hands and the outside edge was safely taken by Henry Nicholls at slips.

Interestingly, this was his first-ever Golden Duck in ODIs, and his second duck in this format. Gill, who had done well in the previous ODI match, was sent back by the Kiwis without troubling the scorers.

His only other duck in this format came against Australia in the Vizag ODI in 2023.

Rare failure for Gill vs New Zealand

This was one of those rare failures for Captain Gill against the Black Caps in the ODI format. His first-ever ODI double ton came against the same team (2023), and he loves to bat against the Kiwi bowlers.

So far, Gill has played 17 ODI matches against New Zealand, and he has racked up 795 runs, with an average of 56.78 and a strike rate of 100.12.

He has two hundred against them, and ever since his debut, Gill has looked rock-solid against them.

IND Vs NZ 2nd ODI, a game to forget for Gill

The Indian captain looked in solid touch in the first ODI, but the second ODI in Wellington was a game to forget for him. During India’s bowling, the skipper dropped a dolly, and Daryl Mitchell was given a lifeline.

Mitchell was 21 when he was dropped, and the batter went on to score a gritty fifty. Moreover, with the bat, he couldn’t score and was sent packing for a duck.
