Shimron Hetmyer has joined the West Indies team, as they had to make some urgent changes to their squad for the upcoming second and third ODIs against New Zealand in the ongoing five-match 50-over series in the Caribbean. West Indies leads the series 1-0 after winning the first game in Guyana.

Daryl Mitchell’s 50 and Will Young’s 49 powered New Zealand to 267 after they batted first. Alzarri Joseph starred for the Windies, taking four wickets. In response, Keacy Carty made 95, and captain Shai Hope made 87* as the West Indies won by 7 wickets.

Shimron Hetmyer replaces Justin Greaves in the Windies squad for the next two ODIs of the New Zealand series

Shimron Hetmyer has taken Justin Greaves’ place. After suffering an injury, Justin Greaves has been replaced by Shimron Hetmyer in the West Indies' team for the second and third ODIs against New Zealand.

According to a release from Cricket West Indies, Greaves returned to Barbados to continue his recuperation after suffering a back ailment that prevented him from playing in the first ODI in Providence.

To finish his MLC stint with the Seattle Orcas, he was initially kept out of their selection for the first three ODIs against New Zealand.

Hetmyer was able to join the West Indies team after Orcas placed fifth in the MLC league stage and failed to advance to the elimination stages. Hetmyer struck at 136.66 in the MLC this year, scoring 164 runs in ten games.

Shimron Hetmyer reintegrated into West Indies ODI plans

Because CWI authorities were impressed by his performance in the ICC event, he also made a comeback in the West Indies' ODI preparations.

Hetmyer has played 57 ODIs for the West Indies since his debut in 2017 and has made 1543 runs at an average of 31.48 and a strike rate of 105.39 with 5 centuries and 4 fifties and a best score of 139.
