The Cricket Portugal Instagram account threw shade on the Indian team after Ireland was mentioned on one of their posts by an Indian fan. The Indian team is not having a good time on the field in recent series. They have been whitewashed by Ireland in Dublin and even lost the T20I series to England with one game to go.

India’s poor time began when Ireland registered their first-ever T20I wins and T20I series win over the Men in Blue in late June in Dublin. India was completely outplayed by Ireland in both T20Is, as the batters, coming off the IPL 2026, struggled to come to terms on sluggish and slow Irish surfaces.

Then England completely dominated India after the first T20I in Chester-Le-Street was rained out. India suffered their biggest loss by runs in the third T20I in Nottingham, getting bowled out for 76 in the chase of a 202-run target.

Cricket Portugal trolls the Indian team after a fan's Ireland comment

Portugal was recently knocked out of semifinal contention in the ongoing FIFA Football World Cup 2026. However, their cricket team is doing great in the world. The Instagram account of Cricket Portugal posted a creative related to the cricket team losing only 2 games out of the last 18 T20Is they have played.

However, an Indian fan tried to pull their legs with a comment on the post: “Name Portugal account based in Ireland," alluding to the notion that the account was being run from Ireland. However, the Portugal Instagram account admin retorted brilliantly: “You really want to bring up Ireland."

This was a and brutal jibe at India’s recent T20I series in Ireland. Ireland achieved their first-ever T20I win over India by defeating them in Dublin by 34 runs in the first T20I.

They then created history by whitewashing India 0-2 in the series, as they won the second game by 1 run, also in Dublin.

Indian team’s ongoing struggles in T20Is in UK

The Indian team has not been having a very good time in international cricket after having won the T20 World Cup 2026 earlier this year. Indian players then played almost three months of the Indian Premier League on flat pitches with high-scoring matches.

Under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, India had a complete change of conditions in Ireland, leading to the batters failing to adapt, and India faced a humiliating result in the end. It was expected that India would fare well against England, against whom they are engaged in a five-T20I series.

The first T20I of the series was rained out in Chester-Le-Street, but since then, the Indian team has faced one humiliation after another. India lost the second T20I in Manchester by 4 wickets, the third T20I in Nottingham by 125 runs, and the most recent game in Bristol by 9 wickets.

The Nottingham game was India’s poorest performance in T20Is ever. 76 was India’s second lowest score in T20Is ever, and the 125-run loss proved to be their biggest-ever loss in the format and their first 100-plus-run loss.

India’s next assignment in international cricket

After losing the T20I series and the fifth T20I on July 11, India and England will face off in a three-match ODI series as well.

Things are likely to change for India, as Shubman Gill will take over the captaincy of the Men in Blue side, and they will have the services of veteran players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
