Shashank Singh, the Punjab Kings’ batter, has been in the spotlight ever since his domestic help registered FIRs against him and his family for abuse and physical harm. The chef that worked in his house had claimed that Shashank and his father Shailesh Singh, a former police officer, assaulted him.
Shashank Singh and his family have since claimed that he has not done anything, instead stating that the chef was removed from service after he was caught video graphing the house for some reason. In retaliation, the chef lodged FIRs against Shashank and his father, former Special Director General (DG) of Police Shailesh Singh.
"This incident changed me forever"—Shashank Singh on a false FIR
On Sunday, Shashank Singh spoke about a police case that was filed against him and his family. He claimed that a "false FIR" was used as a kind of extortion to damage his public persona.
Shashank Singh has tweeted on his official account, expressing his sentiments and putting light on the occurrence and how it impacted and altered his life.

"This incident changed me forever and taught me lessons I will carry for life. I am not writing this for sympathy. I am writing it because this was the first time my family and I experienced something like this, and I hope others learn from it.
As an athlete, I have faced criticism, trolling, and abuse for years. I have learned to live with it. But this was different. Overnight, I was portrayed as someone who had beaten up a person less privileged than I am. Thousands abused me without knowing the truth,” Singh posted on X.
Shashank Singh questions the manner in which FIRs were lodged
The batter for the Punjab Kings contested the report's accuracy, saying the chef had left his house unharmed. He claimed that when they saw the cook in a video, they were taken aback because he appeared to be in good health when he left their house.
He continued by saying that the family was unable to understand how the man had suffered such horrific injuries.
He continued by saying that although the cook persisted on going back to their home, they sent him back on the third day after they noticed him wandering around the property, snapping photos and sending them to his friends, whom he now believes were conspirators.
"We were shocked when we later saw him in the video, because he had left our home completely fine. It took us time to process how someone could end up so badly beaten. Later, police records showed that he already had 9 FIRs registered against him and had been charge-sheeted in 8 cases for offenses including attempt to murder, house theft (which we later discovered he had also committed at our home), assault, house trespass, extortion by causing hurt, criminal intimidation, obscene acts, offenses under the SC/ST Act, and other crimes.
He was using three different names to hide his identity. As more facts came to light, I came to believe that he had never entered our home with honest intentions,” he added.
Shashank Singh thanks God for saving his and his family’s lives
On the day of the incident, Shashank Singh said he was happy to be at home with his parents. Additionally, he cautioned against assuming someone was telling the truth simply because they appeared weak, wept, or appealed for pity.
Finally, he said, "Satyamev Jayate." The truth always triumphs, even though it may take some time to come to light.
“I thank God that I was home with my parents that day. I don't want to imagine what could have happened otherwise. I believe my family escaped what could have been a much more serious situation. This experience taught me some hard lessons.
The thought that a known criminal, unknown to us then, came so close to the safe confines of our home still sends a chill down my spine. Just because someone appears to be helpless, is crying, or seeks sympathy does not mean they are telling the truth. Truth may take time, but it always prevails. Satyamev Jayate,” he concluded.
Shashank Singh had a poor IPL 2026 for Punjab Kings, scoring 132 runs in 12 games with a strike rate of 188.57 and managed only one fifty in the tournament.
