Sahibzada Farhan Demeans Virat Kohli [Source: X]
Sahibzada Farhan has quietly become Pakistan’s most reliable top-order batter in T20Is off late. Even in the ongoing 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the 30-year-old has emerged as the most successful batter of the tournament in terms of runs.
With form on his side, Farhan might even eclipse a huge world record set by Virat Kohli over a decade ago during the 2014 edition of the showpiece event. The prolific opener certainly has an opportunity to do so as Pakistan gears up to face their remaining two Super 8 opponents within the coming week.

Farhan says winning for Pakistan more important than Virat Kohli record
Sahibzada Farhan is currently leading the run-scoring race of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with 220 runs in just four innings at a prolific average of 73.33. With Pakistan scheduled to play at least two more matches in the tournament, the 30-year-old opening batter might well topple the all-time world record set by Indian icon Virat Kohli.
It is worth noting that Kohli aggregated 319 runs in just six innings at a colossal average of 106.33 back during the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.
When asked if he was actively pursuing Virat Kohli’s all-time record, the Pakistani opener shrugged off the individual achievement and stated that scripting Pakistan’s victories is his utmost priority.
While speaking during a pre-match press conference, Sahibzada Farhan said “I don’t look at stats. Even when I perform, people tell me how many runs I’ve scored. If you start thinking about records, it becomes an added burden. I want to finish well. I want Pakistan to be proud.”
Sahibzada Farhan humbles strike-rate critics
Sahibzada Farhan has maintained a staggering strike rate of 164.17 in the ongoing 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He slapped a 58-ball century against Namibia, and another 41-ball 73 against USA, both in match-winning causes for the Pakistan team.
However, several of his teammates, like Babar Azam for instance, have been scrutinized for struggling with strike rates in T20I cricket. Responding back to a certain reporter, Farhan said “This is international cricket. You can’t start hitting from ball one every time. You have to read the pitch. If the ball is in my range, I attack. Once I get momentum, I try to take it long so the team can benefit.”
Farhan propels Pakistan into Super 8s
Regardless of chasing Virat Kohli or not, Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has already won two ‘Player of the Match’ awards out of just four innings for Pakistan this 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
His prolific form, coupled with contributions from Faheem Ashraf and other fast bowlers helped Pakistan secure three wins out of four Group A matches of the tournament to qualify for the Super 8s.
The ‘Men in Green’ will now face England in their second Group 2 Super 8 match on Tuesday, February 24. The match will be hosted by the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy. The team recently had its all-important match against New Zealand washed out in Colombo.
