The T20 World Cup 2026 match between Pakistan and New Zealand is heading towards a no-result because of a heavy downpour at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam caught everyone’s attention with his antics from the balcony.

Notably, the first match of the Super 8 round was scheduled to start at 7:00 pm IST, but the covers were on right after the toss. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first despite the overcast conditions. For the New Zealand game, the Men in Green made one change, which was to bring in Fakhar Zaman for Khawaja Nafay.

Babar Azam Enjoys Tea and Fruits To Kill Time

Fakhar was all set to play his first match of the tournament, but the wait turned longer because of a heavy downpour. Meanwhile, Babar Azam knew exactly how to kill time and the right-handed batter was captured having tea and eating fruits on the balcony.

A clip has now gone viral on the internet, where Babar is enjoying the rain in Colombo with a cup of hot tea. Minutes later, he again appeared in the dressing room’s balcony and this time with fruits in a plate.

Babar Azam Chats With Salman Agha After Disrespect

Notably, Babar Azam was at the centre of heavy humiliation during Pakistan's do-or-die match against Namibia where he was stopped from batting. The right-handed batter usually bats at No.4, but was not asked to bat, rather Khawaja Nafay was sent ahead of him.

Pakistan were reduced to 107/2. Eyes were on the dugout as fans were up on their seats to see Babar in action. However, the team sent Khawaja Nafay to bat. The insult was aggravated after the fall of 3rd wicket, which is when Shadab Khan stepped out to bat.

Babar Azam was kept hanging in the dressing room as the management didn't think of him worthy enough to score runs at a quicker rate. The incident quickly went viral on social media and the fans were upset by the disrespect and even mentioned that it would have been better to drop him than such mistreatment.

Eventually, the gamble worked as Shadab Khan scored a quickfire 36 (22).

Babar Azam Struggling for form in T20 World Cup 2026

Babar Azam has had a difficult last 12 months as he was kicked out of the scheme of things in T20Is, but returned to the team following Asia Cup. Notably, the right-handed batter was not part of Pakistan' Asia Cup squad, where they reached the finals, but suffered a defeat against India, reigniting the calls to bring back Babar.

Eventually, Babar returned to the team, but failed to repay the faith shown in him as he struggled in T20 leagues across the world and also for Pakistan. Notably, Babar featured in BBL, where he scored 202 runs in 11 innings. Further, he scored a fifty against Australia in the T20I series, but is yet to shine in World Cup.

Notably, Babar has scored 66 runs in three innings in this tournament, which is why the management didn't trust him for the Namibia match.

PS: The match between Pakistan vs New Zealand has been called off without a ball being bowled. Both teams now share a point each.
