Former captain Rohit Sharma walked off the field, retired hurt, during the recent clash between the Mumbai Indians and RCB held at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit never returned to bat again, which raised concerns about his fitness.

RCB lit the Wankhede stage up with a grand total of 240/4. Chasing the mighty task, Mumbai lost their star opener, Rohit, to injury, which forced him to walk out of the field midway through the second inning.

Rohit Sharma’s injury update

Batting on 19 off 13 balls, Rohit Sharma picked up a hamstring injury. Mumbai was scorching hot with unbearable humidity, and Rohit suddenly looked uncomfortable.

After a brief discussion with the physio, Rohit decided to retire hurt and did not return to bat for the rest of the innings.

Meanwhile, after the game, Mumbai Indians’ finisher Sherfane Rutherford provided an update on Rohit Sharma. He confirmed the senior is struggling with a strained hamstring but had no clarity on the severity yet.

“I am not sure about it. It’s a bit of a hamstring. I am not sure; I was in the dugout, so I can’t really give much information on that," Rutherford told the press.

Rutherford’s statement suggests that it is a minor strain, which means Rohit may miss 1 or 2 games. But right now, MI are in a wait-and-watch phase.

Virat Kohli falls sick as well

That being said, apart from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli was also unwell during the Mumbai Indians vs RCB matchup. In the first inning, he scored 50 off 38 balls but didn’t take the field in the second inning.

He wore a hoodie and appeared in discomfort. Commentator Ravi Shastri claimed Kohli was sick, while others speculated that he was carrying an ankle niggle.

However, RCB is yet to issue an official statement on this. Virat Kohli is a crucial piece of the defending champions’ batting puzzle, and losing him this early into the tournament could be devastating.

He is also in great form this year, which means RCB need him now more than ever to defend their title.

Mumbai Indians go down without Rohit

Meanwhile, RCB pulled off a thrilling 18-run win over the Mumbai Indians in a run-fest at the Wankhede Stadium.

Batting first, RCB posted a massive 240/4, powered by explosive knocks from Philip Salt (78), Rajat Patidar (53), and a composed fifty from Virat Kohli.

In response, MI fought hard, finishing at 222/5. Sherfane Rutherford led the charge with a blistering 71* off 31 balls, while Hardik Pandya contributed 40.

However, the early retirement of Rohit Sharma due to injury disrupted the chase. Despite a strong effort, MI fell short as RCB’s bowlers held their nerve in the death overs to seal a crucial victory.
