Not so long ago, a groundbreaking development regarding Rohit Sharma shook the world for cricket fans. It read that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will not have a former India captain in their squad for the World Cup 2027.
The BCCI, however, later denied the news, saying it was baseless and that no such communication had occurred between them and Rohit regarding the subject.
To make it clearer about his own intentions, Rohit let his bat do the talking at Lord’s on Sunday. At the age of 39, Rohit smashed five sixes and 11 fours in a spectacular 110-ball 138 in the ODI series decider against England.
Unfortunately, it all went in vain during the epic 388-run chase, courtesy of another failure from India’s middle order. The Men in Blue, riding on Rohit’s heroics, ably supported by Virat Kohli’s 60-ball 74, ended with 360/7.
Rohit Sharma Speaks Frankly On World Cup 2027 Plans
Speaking with the BCCI, Rohit Sharma opened up about his clear state of mind regarding the World Cup 2027. There, he took a subtle dig at outside noise involving the BCCI. Of them, the biggest rumour, of course, was his sudden international retirement from the ODIs.
“Noise has been there ever since I made my debut and till the time I'm playing, it's always going to be there. What matters is what I do on the field. My focus is on contributing for the team, that is my focus, let the noise be there, if there is no noise then there is no fun,” Rohit told the BCCI in a video shared by the Indian board on social media.

In the recently concluded India vs England ODI series, Rohit had a 21-ball 11, 47-ball 26 before the spectacular century. Prior to that, India had an ODI home series against Afghanistan. There, Rohit made 143 runs in three matches.

When it comes to ODI World Cups, Rohit has been simply magnificent with the bat, having made 1575 runs in 28 matches across three editions in 2015, 2019 and 2023.
At the most prestigious cricket events, Rohit averages over 60, that too at a strike rate of 105.49. Seven centuries and six half-centuries, coupled with 166 fours and 54 sixes, just tell the world how dominant Rohit Sharma has been, particularly in the ODI World Cups.
Out of Rohit’s seven centuries, five came in the World Cup 2019, hosted by England and Wales. He was at his imperious best back then, with 648 runs across nine matches speaking volumes.
World Cup 2027 will be played mainly in South Africa, with Zimbabwe and Namibia as co-hosts. It will be interesting to see how the BCCI reacts to it after Rohit’s honest admission regarding his participation in the next 50-over mega event.
