Cricketers have been facing the brunt of domestic abuse allegations lately, with Mohammad Shami, the India pacer, being the most popular and infamous case. He became estranged from his wife Hasin Jahan back in March 2018 after she accused him of domestic violence, adultery and dowry harassment.
In a more recent scenario, IPL cricketer Amit Mishra has been charged with complaints of severe domestic abuse, harassment, assault as well as abetment to suicide. Notably, although he shares the same name as India’s spinner Amit Mishra, this cricketer has never made it to the national team and has played for the state from where he belongs.
Who Is Amit Mishra? India Player With Namesake of Famous India Spinner
Mishra has played for Uttar Pradesh and also featured for Rajasthan Royals in one edition of the Indian Premier League. Mishra, born in Kanpur on November 11, 1991, emerged in the wake of Praveen Kumar, R.P. Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
The pacer made his debut in the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season, where he came into the limelight with figures of 7 for 59 in only his second match against Rajasthan.
Given his promising attributes, Rajasthan Royals signed Mishra for his base price of INR 10 lakh at the 2014 IPL auction. However, he did not feature in any of the games. Later, he was picked up by the Gujarat Lions when the franchise bought him again at the base price of INR 10 lakh in the 2016 auction.
His last appearance on a cricket field was against Andhra in October 2018, at least for a single game. Now, Amit Mishra’s wife, allegedly Garima Tiwari, a 35-year-old model, has filed a complaint against him and his family members for domestic abuse.

Mishra Gets Accused of Severe Domestic Abuse And Dowry Claims
Garima Tiwari alleged that she had to face continuous physical and mental harassment from her husband and his family after marriage. While speaking to reporters, Tiwari mentioned that she was even forced to quit her modelling career and was pushed towards taking her own life because of the behaviour of Amit Mishra and his family.
Mishra, now a Reserve Bank of India officer, met Tiwari through Instagram in 2019 after he had called quits to his cricketing career. The two lived in a relationship for nearly three years before getting married in 2021.
Garima alleged that her husband and in-laws pressured her for Rs 10 lakh and a Honda City car as dowry. Although her family managed to arrange Rs 2.5 lakh at the time of the wedding, she was harassed over alleged demands for more money.
Abuse And mental Harrasment Claims
Drunkenly abusing Tiwari has also been alleged against Mishra, where the wife said that he used to frequently come home drunk, verbally abuse her and keep her without food for days.
Garima’s modelling assignments were also being jeopardised, and the money she earned from her job was allegedly taken away by Mishra as they repeatedly threatened her with divorce. She claimed that she also attempted suicide by consuming phenyl and had to be hospitalised later.
However, Garima also mentioned that she had earlier tried to contact the police and file an FIR against the family. According to her, due to the influence of the ex-Rajasthan Royals cricketer, the reports were dissolved and even repeated representations to the police failed to yield any action.
₹1 Crore Compensation Demanded Against Amit Mishra
Notably, this is the third legal case filed by Tiwari against India cricketer Mishra. She filed a domestic violence case against him on April 21, 2025, followed by a maintenance petition on April 23, 2025, seeking a monthly allowance of Rs 50,000 and compensation of Rs 1 crore.
As of now, no further development has been reported, with the court expected to carry on the proceedings for the preliminary hearing soon.
