On Sunday, Suryakumar Yadav-led India created history by becoming the first team to win three T20 World Cup titles after beating New Zealand in the final of the 2026 edition in Ahmedabad.

An aggressive batting display led by the top three batters, Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan, helped India put up a mammoth 255 for five. Led by Jasprit Bumrah’s 4/15, India’s bowling attack ensured New Zealand never threatened the target as India sealed a 96-run win.

In the pursuit, the Men in Blue thrashed numerous records. Let’s look at all the team records broken by Team India in the successful T20 World Cup 2026.

List of all records broken by India during the T20 World Cup 2026

#1 First Team to win 3 ICC T20 World Cups

India have now won the title for the third time, after 2007 and 2024, the most by any team. Behind them are West Indies (2012 and 2016) and England (2010 and 2022), who have won the title twice apiece.

#2 First Team to successfully defend T20 World Cup title

India are also the first team to defend a Men's T20 World Cup; no defending champion had even reached the final previously.

#3 First Team to win a second consecutive T20 World Cup title

Before yesterday, no team had won consecutive T20 World Cup titles. However, the Indian contingent broke all shackles to win back-to-back ICC trophies in the format.

#4 First team to win T20 World Cups at Home

India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup at home. The previous best record was by Sri Lanka, who finished as runners-up in 2012.

#5 Highest Total in T20 World Cup final

India's total against New Zealand in the final is the highest in a final and even in a knockout (or playoff) match in T20Is. Their 253 for 7 against England in the semi-final was the previous highest. It is also the third-highest by any team in a men's T20 World Cup match.

The previous highest total by any team in a T20I final was 244 for 4 by Italy against Romania in 2024, in the Group A final of the Sub-Regional Europe Qualifier. No team had a 200-plus total in a T20 World Cup final prior to Sunday.

#6 Biggest Margin of Victory in T20 World Cup Final

India's win margin against New Zealand is their biggest, by runs, in the men's T20 World Cup. Their previous biggest was 93 against Namibia earlier this World Cup.

The 96-run defeat is New Zealand's biggest by runs in this competition. Two of New Zealand's three heaviest losses in men's T20Is have come against India in Ahmedabad.

#7 Joint Highest Powerplay Score in T20 World Cup

India's total in the powerplay is the joint-highest by any team in the men's T20 World Cup, equalling West Indies' 92 for 1 against Afghanistan in 2024.

#8 India’s Highest run-chases in T20 World Cup history

In the virtual quarterfinal played between India and West Indies, the Men in Blue chased down a humongous 196, riding on Sanju Samson's efforts, who led his side home in a trademark style. And in the end, they pulled off their highest successful and third-highest overall run chase in T20 World Cup history.

#9 Most sixes (106) in a single edition

The “new-era” India smashed a whopping 106 sixes in the T20 World Cup 2026, the most by any team in a single edition of the tournament.

#10 First team to score 250-plus in successive men's T20Is

In the title clash against New Zealand, India became the first team to score 250+ in successive men’s T20Is, following the 253 for 7 they made against England in the semi-final. Only Sunrisers Hyderabad (in IPL 2024) had recorded successive 250-plus totals in men's T20s before India.

Moreover, this was the fourth instance of India scoring 250-plus in T20Is in 2026, the most by any team in a single year across T20 cricket.
