India’s fielding coach Subhadeep Ghosh has heaped a significant praise on senior cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Ghosh’s remarks occurred just a couple of days after the two seasoned pros pulled off some audacious fielding efforts in India’s comprehensive win against New Zealand in Auckland.

It is worth noting that Subhadeep was appointed as India’s fielding coach back in August this year as a replacement of multi-World Cup winning fielding coach T Dilip.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma’s anticipation impresses fielding coach

While speaking with the reporters, Subhadeep Ghosh praised Virat Kohli for making the cover and point fielding positions his own. According to Ghosh, the legendary Indian batter can predict the path of the ball based on its trajectory after hitting the bat.

He said, “Virat has fielded at cover and point countless times, so he knows the trajectory and path of the ball, as well as how it is likely to travel after impact. He reads the situation slightly earlier than others, and you can see that in his execution.”

The fielding coach also praised Rohit Sharma for the run out he pulled off against New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell in the first ODI of the series in Auckland on November 4 earlier this week. Subhadeep Ghosh believes that Sharma’s anticipation of the ball helped him execute the wicket.

He claimed, “As far as Rohit is concerned, I think he anticipated that the ball would go towards the square leg during that run-out. He wasn't moving straight; he was already shifting slightly towards square leg. That early anticipation allowed him to execute the skill perfectly.”

How did Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma perform on the field?

Virat Kohli punched out a sizzling 51-ball 74 with 13 boundaries and a six to help India make lightwork of New Zealand’s total in the first ODI at Eden Park.

Apart from his run chase masterclass, the 38-year-old cricketer also snared a couple of sharp catches on the field, including a one-hand grab at second slip off Anshul Kamboj to get rid of Nathan Smith.

Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, swooped on to the ball in a flash and fired a smart throw towards KL Rahul to catch a well-set Daryl Mitchell short of his crease.

With both cricketers inching closer to the age of 40, their continued sharpness, athleticism and commitment on the field remain a testament to their enduring standards and dedication to Indian cricket.
