India Men's coaching staff saw a couple of more outgoings at the end of the Zimbabwe T20I series win, as the fielding coach T Dilip joined Ryan ten Doeschate to make room for the new faces in the coaching setup.

T Dilip had joined the Indian coaching staff back in 2021 under Rahul Dravid and subsequently worked alongside Gautam Gambhir and co., before ending his five-year association with the side. He famously introduced the fielding medal during the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 and was a famous name in the dressing room.

With T Dilip’s tenure ending, according to the Times of India (TOI), the BCCI is set to appoint Subhadeep Ghosh in the role as the new fielding coach for the team from the upcoming Sri Lanka series.

As Ghosh joins the Indian team for the upcoming assignment, here’s a brief look at who he is and what can be expected from him.

Who is Subhadeep Ghosh?

Born in Digboi in 1968, Subhadeep Ghosh hails from the state of Assam and played domestic cricket for his home state and Railways from the season 1994/95 to 2004/05.

Throughout his domestic career, he played 17 First-Class matches, scoring 316 runs at an average of 12.64, taking 12 catches.

In List A cricket, he played 17 matches and scored 307 runs, averaging 20.46 and picking 4 catches. He scored two fifties in both formats, with his best score reading 61.

His playing career ended against Jharkhand in 2005, in a 24-run loss, getting stumped by MS Dhoni on 22(30). Since then, he moved into coaching and has been a part of some high-profile setups across men’s, women’s and age-group teams.

Why Has Subhadeep Ghosh Replaced T Dilip?

Despite not being a big name during his playing days, Subhadeep Ghosh commands a lot of respect in coaching circles and among players.

He is known to be working with young talents in domestic and national camps, helping players in their developmental years.

He has previously worked with the Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in IPL and is also associated with the BCCI, with international women’s tours and U19 assignments under his belt.

With the experience and respect that he brings along in his CV, he has been appointed as India’s new fielding coach and has replaced T Dilip.

Earlier in 2026, Subhadeep Ghosh was a part of VVS Laxman’s India U19 coaching staff, which won the record sixth U19 World Cup, thanks to the likes of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre, among others. He defines the U19 World Cup win as the defining moment of his coaching career.

“I have been part of a few World Cups earlier, but those experiences were on the other side of the result. This time, it feels special. It is a very satisfying feeling and something I will always cherish,” he told The News Mill earlier in 2026.

“The stages may be different, but the intention remains the same – to help athletes become better, even if it is by just one percent every day. God has been kind enough to give me opportunities to remain part of a game I love so much,” he said about moving from domestic coaching to Indian setups.
