Who is Subhadeep Ghosh?
Subhadeep Ghosh is a former Assam and Railways cricketer in Indian domestic cricket. He played 17 first class matches and another 17 List A games up until 2005 before announcing his retirement from the game.
Ghosh also holds an extensive coaching experience, considering he was the fielding coach of the India Women’s team in 2022 and 2023. He also worked with India A and Assam cricket teams.
Why Has Subhadeep Ghosh Replaced T Dilip?
During T Dilip’s tenure as India’s fielding coach, the ‘Men in Blue’ lifted the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups, and also lifted the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in the UAE.
India’s fielding also drastically improved under Dilip, with the coach also initiating an interactive after-match medal ceremony for ‘best fielder’. He did not receive his contract extension from the BCCI after the conclusion of India’s two white-ball series in England last month.
With Dilip's contract seeing its conclusion, he has now been replaced by Subhadeep, who is known for commanding much respect in coaching circles and among players.
Ghosh has previously worked with the KKR and Delhi Capitals franchises in the IPL, and he was part of VVS Laxman’s India’s 2026 U19 World Cup winning coaching staff.
While speaking with the News Mill earlier this year, he said “The intention remains the same – to help athletes become better, even if it is by just one percent every day. God has been kind enough to give me opportunities to remain part of a game I love so much.”
Subhadeep Ghosh to fly to Sri Lanka for Test series
Subhadeep will now travel to Sri Lanka as part of India’s coaching staff, commanded by head coach Gautam Gambhir.
With Team India dropping ample of catches in England and Zimbabwe, all eyes will be on Ghosh as he prepares for his maiden international assignment as India’s fielding coach.
The Test series between the two sides will be played between August 15 and August 27 in Galle and Colombo.
