BCCI action on RCB DJ (Source: AFP)
In a significant development, Chennai Super Kings have lodged a formal complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru over a song and remarks made by the RCB DJ.
For the unversed, CSK approached the IPL governing body, BCCI, after the high-octane game on April 5 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The filed complaint alleges that in-stadium entertainment crossed the line, blurring into mockery. It cites the playing of the song “Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney” and the DJ's comments on the dismissal of CSK batters as undermining and insulting to the sentiments of players and supporters.

As per the publicly available data, the complaint was filed on April 15, 2026, with CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan stressing that while DJs can support the home team, they should not demean the rivals.
It is worth noting that the viral song “Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney”, often used on social media to evoke South Indian stereotypes, has been associated with the RCB vs CSK rivalry in IPL 2026, also known as the ‘Southern derby’.

The row emerged when RCB shared a video of their wicket-keeper batter Jitesh Sharma singing it before a match in Chennai. The incident drew backlash from CSK fans. Later, during a CSK vs RCB game at Chepauk, CSK’s DJ played the song after Jitesh’s dismissal, prompting further clashes.
RCB in the spotlight after the high-octane clash on April 5
Coming back to the present, as emphasised in the statement by the CSK management, such controversies encourage hostility to already high-stakes encounters between the sides. Thus, the BCCI would take exemplary action to resolve the dispute.
First things first, the IPL Governing Council may review the complaint and initiate a formal inquiry into the inappropriate remarks and stereotyped songs played by the RCB DJ at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
It is worth noting that the incident can make the Board of Control for Cricket in India implement strict guidelines for in-stadium entertainment, aiming at the DJs and hosts. Rules could be put in place prohibiting them from emphasising or targeting opposition players/fans, similar to what CSK implemented after a previous incident.
What actions can BCCI take against the RCB DJ?
Now, talking about what actions could be taken against the RCB DJ after the recent row.
The carnival of cricket in India, IPL, blends cricket with the city-based franchise model, tapping into local pride and identity, with fans passionately supporting teams representing their regions in a country which functions as a unifying cultural force.
BCCI could issue a warning to the franchise to ensure such incidents do not occur again, emphasising that in-stadium entertainment must remain neutral and respectful.
If the matter escalates, the BCCI can ban or suspend the DJ from performing in future IPL matches or at any BCCI-controlled stadium, deeming the actions “discriminatory” or unprofessional.
