Five-time champions Mumbai Indians will lock horns with the unbeaten Punjab Kings in a high-octane clash at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

While Shreyas Iyer-led PBKS are flying high, coming fresh off a commanding win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. MI have had a challenging start to their IPL 2026 campaign, losing three of their first four matches.

Adding to the misery, the team is currently facing uncertainty about Rohit Sharma’s availability after he suffered a hamstring injury, which has left the star batter out of their upcoming fixture against the Punjab Kings.

What is the latest update on Rohit Sharma injury in IPL 2026?

For the unversed, Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma hurt himself while trying to complete a quick single in the sixth over of the chase during the high-octane MI vs RCB game on Sunday.

After a short consultation with the team physiotherapist, he retired hurt from the innings, scoring 19 runs off 13 balls before Suryakumar Yadav took over.

Later, it was confirmed by his teammate, Sherfane Rutherford, that the ‘hitman’ will go for scans for the potential hamstring injury. "I'm not entirely sure yet - perhaps it's a bit of a hamstring issue - but I can't say for certain. I was in the dugout, so I don't have much information on it," Rutherford said in the post-match media conference.

Moreover, according to recent reports, the scan results do not seem too positive for the former MI captain.

In a massive development, it has been noted that Rohit Sharma will miss the next two IPL matches for Mumbai Indians. The couple of fixtures include the game against Punjab Kings on April 16 and Gujarat Titans on April 20.

Will Jacks' availability still a concern for MI in IPL 2026

Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians have endured a challenging start to their campaign this season. With just one win in their first four matches, the five-time IPL champions find themselves struggling for momentum and consistency. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma will need to step up if MI are to turn their fortunes around at their home.

MI have also missed the services of their star all-rounder Will Jacks in the IPL 2026 so far. Jacks was retained by the five-time IPL winners ahead of the 19th edition. Due to a busy international schedule ahead of the 2026 season, he asked for an extended break to spend time with his family.

Ahead of the IPL 2026, Jacks played for England in The Ashes 2025-26, which concluded in January. He was also part of England’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Later, he played in the T20 World Cup 2026, where England reached the semi-finals.
