India A’s must-win Tri-series match against hosts Sri Lanka A is certainly not on sort of drama. From bizarre run outs to penalty runs, the match has already produced several talking points and moments of confusion.

Another unruly incident took place during the decisive overs of the Sri Lankan run chase, this time in the form of an India A fast bowler visibly getting annoyed by wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh.

Prabhsimran Singh seemingly annoys Arshad Khan

The incident occurred during the 42nd over of the Sri Lanka A run-chase at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla on Monday, June 15; when a Vaibhav Sooryavanshi throw from fine leg was not cleanly gathered by India A wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh.

With Sri Lanka A number eight Vijayakanth Viyaskanth batting at 16* off 35 balls and facing fast bowler Arshad Khan, the tailender pulled towards the fine leg region and took off for a double with non-strike partner and well-set half-centurion Sadeera Samarawickrama.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi grabbed the ball at fine leg and fired a throw towards the wicketkeeper end. Prabhsimran Singh, however, failed to gathered the ball and ran halfway down the pitch in his follow through.

Even though Sooryavanshi’s throw was a bit wayward as it allowed Sri Lanka batters to complete an easy two, fast bowler Arshad Khan got visibly annoyed at Prabhsimran for apparently letting go of a ‘run out opportunity’.

Mix up, penalty engulf India vs Sri Lanka A thriller

Earlier in the match during the India A innings, tailender Vipraj Nigam got run out under the most freakish circumstances. Batting at number nine and having shared a fighting partnership with Suryansh Shedge, Nigam took off for a possible bye in the 48th over of the innings.

However, the Indian tailender reached the other end, at a time when Shedge was busy looking down on the pitch after umpire did not give a ‘wide’ verdict to a questionable delivery.

The India A team was also awarded five penalty runs when Sri Lanka A wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella failed to stop the ball from hitting his helmet behind the stumps.

India vs Sri Lanka A match ends in dramatic tie

Batting first, India A mount charted 265 runs despite slipping to 143-7 at one stage. After Vaibhav Sooryavanshi failed to go big early in the innings along with the rest of the top order, Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam shared a fighting 104-run partnership for the eighth wicket, with both scoring cracking half-centuries.

For Sri Lanka, Mohamed Shiraz and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth both picked up three wickets each in the innings.

In response, a tight final over from Arshad Khan and wickets from Nishant Sindhu, Ayush Badoni, Vipraj Nigam and Anukul Roy restricted Sri Lanka A to 265-9 from 50 overs. The match ended in a dramatic tie, thus taking the game to a tie-breaking Super Over.
