Sooryavanshi criticised for another failure [Source: AFP]
When Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was picked in the India A squad for the Sri Lanka tri-series, there was a lot of expectation from the youngster as he had delivered the goods in the IPL and was in stellar form heading onto the tour.
However, three matches into the tri-nation tournament, and Sooryavanshi is yet to light up the marquee event as he failed to deliver the goods against Sri Lanka A, not once, but twice.
The 15-year-old youngster showed his brilliance in the second match against Afghanistan A, but against a better bowling attack, Sooryavanshi had no answer.
Sooryavanshi flops as Sri Lanka dismisses him early
The Indian opener scored a quickfire 44 in the match against Afghanistan A, a couple of days ago, and hence, everyone expected him to fire all guns blazing against the hosts, Sri Lanka. He couldn’t do much against them in the tournament opener, and the left-handed batter was due for a big score.
Just like the first match of the tri-series tournament, Sri Lanka managed to dismiss him early. Sahan Arachchige, the off-break bowler, came early into the attack and bowled a tossed-up ball that pitched and drifted away from the Indian opener.
Sooryavanshi went for a big shot, but he hit it from the toe-end of the bat as the ball lobbed up, and the fielder at point took a simple catch to dismiss the opener for just 21 off 14. The left-handed opener had got the start, but he once again failed to convert it into a big score.
Fans slam Sooryavanshi for failure vs Sri Lanka A
The Indian fans tuned in early to witness a Sooryavanshi special against Sri Lanka, but after yet another failure, the social media went wild as the fans slammed the youngster for throwing away his wicket.
How Sooryavanshi has fared in Sri Lanka tri-series so far
With nearly 800 runs in the IPL 2026, and numerous awards swept, the 15-year-old had the entire world at his feet as he aimed to stamp his authority in the 50-overs format as well. However, after three matches into the tournament, and there is so much the youngster can learn.

In the first match against Sri Lanka A, the dynamic batter scored just 14 off 12 before getting dismissed. He managed to bounce back against Afghanistan A with a brilliant 44 off 22 balls as the Afghans were taken to the cleaners.
In the ongoing contest against Sri Lanka A, their bowlers had done the homework as a spinner was brought into the attack early, and it paid off as Sooryavanshi scored 21 off 14 but was sent packing.
Fans need to show patience with Sooryavanshi
Many are angry because they believe the teenager will become the next big thing in Indian cricket, and rightly so. The Samastipur-born has all the ingredients to become a successful player across formats, but the fans need to be patient with him.
At just 15, Sooryavanshi is doing things that were unheard of from a teenager. This is technically his first taste of playing against the big boys of international cricket, and the youngster may take a few innings to adjust to the highest level.
