The match between India A and hosts Sri Lanka A in Dambulla ended in a dramatic tie on Monday, June 15. Chasing 266 runs for a win, the Sri Lanka A team was restricted to 265-9 from 50 overs courtesy of a tight final over from fast bowler Arshad Khan.
A major controversy broke out shortly after the match, with several Indian A players visibly arguing with the two on-field umpires. The India A players, led by captain Tilak Varma, apparently demanded a tie-breaking ‘Super Over’ from the umpires, who were initially reluctant owing to bad light at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla.

Sri Lanka beats India in ‘sunset’ Super Over
For all of India’s competitive demand for a Super Over, it was the Sri Lanka A team who ended up winning the tie-breaker. Played long after sunset amid dark Dambulla evening settings, Sri Lanka A batted first and charted 16-0 off Arshad Khan.
Chasing 17 to win, India’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and in-form Suryansh Shedge managed to accrue just 10 runs from their six balls.
Interestingly, an argument broke out between the two camps shortly after the Sri Lankan win, with Sooryavanshi having a go at several fielders from the rival group.
In any case, the outcome plunged India A into further trouble, as they slipped to their second successive defeat in the ongoing Sri Lanka A tri-series in the island nation. With just one win and two defeats from three matches, Tilak Varma and co. are currently placed second on the points table with just a game to spare.
