Pakistan cricket has hit rock bottom, and nothing seems to be going right for them. The Men in Green have been hunting for an ICC silverware for the last nine years, but nothing seems to go their way. Recently, the Salman Ali Agha-led side was eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2026 without advancing to the semifinals.

It was an underwhelming edition for the Men in Green despite a strong-looking side on paper. Sahibzada Farhan was the only positive who ended the tournament as the leading run-getter. Following the World Cup, the PCB were humiliated on a global platform and the Mohsin Naqvi-led board eventually mulled of punishing the players.

PCB Contemplated Imposing Fines on Pakistani players

After Pakistan’s T20 World Cup exit, reports suggested that the PCB had imposed a 5 million Pakistani rupees fine on players apart from Sahibzada Farhan, Fakhar Zaman, and Usman Tariq.

According to a report by renowned Pakistani journalist Saleem Khaliq, the PCB even went on to penalise the players, imposing a fine worth 5 million Pakistani rupees on each member of the team.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a fine of 5 million rupees on Pakistani cricketers for poor performance in the T20 World Cup: sources," Saleem Khaliq posted on X.

Younis Khan Urges Pakistan players to revolt

In the latest events, Pakistan legend Younis Khan has urged the players to revolt against the board and not succumb to the pressure of giving fine.

“If it’s confirmed, then it’s not right. Back in 2003, Rashid Latif received a notice from the PCB that match fees and allowances would be reduced. Some players took a stand, and the decision had to be reversed,” he said.

“The players now have to take a stand. If they do, then they wouldn’t be fined,” he added, urging the team not to accept penalties without question.

Not just Younis Khan, but several other cricketing figures such as Usman Khawaja openly criticised the PCB and even laughed at the board for fining their own stars who have performed in the past.

“All the things are mentioned in the central contracts. This is just some theory floated in the media for you guys to enjoy. Nothing will happen,” Rashid Latif said, being the latest to voice opinion against PCB.

PCB Yet To Officially Fine Pakistan Players

Despite all the chatter and statements, the PCB has not officially responded to these claims and so far none of the player has been fined by the board. At present, Pakistan are currently in Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series against The Tigers.

The PCB made a lot of changes for the ongoing tour as the board dropped the likes of Babar Azam, Saim Ayub and a few other under-performers in the World Cup. Notably, Shaheen Afridi will lead the side.
